Building a healthy, safe and inclusive environment for the LGBTQ community and our diverse allies on campus will open the door for communication and will enable the group to start building a welcoming environment for all students, regardless of their affiliation with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community. This group will also work with Best buddies and the "Spread the Word to End the Word" campaign, along with being in constant with GLSEN and The National Gay and Lesbian Taskforce(among other organizations). All members of this group/club will have a signed permission slip from parents to allow the leaders of the club to openly talk about the diversity of our world and the dangers and precautions of spreading poison and hate. This group is important to the development of a supportive school atmosphere and also a place for abused, bullied and harassed students to find safe harbor. Furthermore, the role of this club is to protect and enlighten.

Every school should have some sort of GSA. It is vital for the health and safety of LGBTQ teens.

In high school I fell into a deep depression feeling as if I was the only one going through what I was experiencing. I nearly failed out of high school and didn't get into a state college. Trying to scrape together good grades at a community college now, attempting to turn my life around. If a faculty member truly wants to make life-long learners out of students, I suggest they learn this lesson in human tolerance themselves.

As a teen growing up, I wish I had a club like this that I could belong to. It's important for everyone to have a place where the can be themselves and feel welcome.

I am the President of a GSA at turner high school and the presence of this club alone has brought down bullying immensely at our school.

It is important that people have some place to be themselves, because a lot of people can't be themselves at home.
