  • Petitioning Walmart, Selig Enterprises and DeKalb County

This petition will be delivered to:

Walmart, Selig Enterprises and DeKalb County

    1. Staci Dixon
    2. Petition by

      Staci Dixon

      Decatur, GA

The people who live, work and play in the neighborhoods surrounding Suburban Plaza do not want the proposed Walmart to be built there. Walmart will add to traffic congestion, lower property values and disrupt the livelihoods of small business owners in our community. We envision good growth for our community and for Suburban Plaza, and our vision does not include Walmart.

    6. Reached 1,500 signatures
    7. We only need 24 signatures to get to 1500!

      Staci Dixon

Help us bust through 1500 this week. Ask your friends on Facebook to sign! And don't forget you can get up-to-date news and info on our Facebook page.

    8. Look -- we only need 86 mor signatures to reach our goal of 1500

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

Check it -- we're close to 1,500 signatures online and we have another few hundred on paper petitions. Let's bust that mark this week! We can do it -- ask just one friend to sign. Actually, if we each ask one friend to sign, we'd have close to 3,000 signatures. Just do it! :-) And thanks!!

    9. Can you help us get 26 signatures this week?

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

Would be super if we hit 1300 by Saturday. Please ask one friend to sign today. Thanks!

    10. Untapped potential

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

Do you know seniors who would like to sign the petition but don't have an e-mail address? Until we get a paper one distributed, you can sign for them -- just enter their name and contact info, but use your alternate e-mail address. Or help them set up a free e-mail address -- they'll thank you for it.

There's a lot of untapped potential out there. Please reach out to your senior neighbors today!

    11. 1,100 signatures today?

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

We're only 16 people shy of reaching 1,100 signatures on the petition. Because of you, 100 more people hear about the proposed Walmart Supercenter development and stand in solidarity with our community by signing the petition. Keep up the good work!

THANK YOU to everyone who joined Good Growth DeKalb in person or in spirit at the successful community forum last week! For a summary, photos and video, please visit www.GoodGrowthDeKalb.org

Everyone left the forum feeling like a movement was underfoot. Please help keep the momentum going -- and get more involved with Good Growth DeKalb -- by joining the planning meeting tomorrow night (feb. 28) at 7:00 in the sanctuary of N. Decatur Presbyterian Church.

You can keep up with all of our events at www.goodgrowthdekalb.org/get-involved/events/ or through Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/NoWMinDecatur

We hope to see you soon!

    12. Reached 1,000 signatures
    13. Reminder: Don't forget the community forum is tonight!

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

Come to share your vision of a positive, neighborhood-friendly Suburban Plaza at Good Growth DeKalb’s community forum tonight!

      Thursday, February 23
      7:00-8:30 p.m.
North Decatur Presbyterian Church near Suburban Plaza

Click the link below for more info and directions.

Also, we're just a few signatures shy of our petition goal of having 1,000 people sign by the time the forum starts. Will you take a few minutes during your lunch today to get two of your neighbors or coworkers to sign it? If each of us reach just two more people, we can have 3,000 signatures soon.

Thanks for all of your support. We hope to see you tonight.

    14. Keep up the pace!

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

We've been getting about 100 signatures each week -- but we're a little behind today. We need 40 more signatures tonight to keep on pace. Will you contact your friends, family and coworkers again right now and encourage them to sign this important petition?

SAVE THE DATE: You're invited to join Good Growth DeKalb for a community forum on Thursday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m.

:: Come to let your neighbors hear what you think about a 149,000 square foot Walmart Supercenter at Suburban Plaza.
:: Come to contribute to a better vision for the shopping center.
:: Come to hear from a panel of special guests.
:: Come to satisfy your curiosity.

    15. Reached 750 signatures
    16. Lucky number 7

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

      Why 7?

Because 7 + 7 = 14 and that's the number of petition signers we need to go before we reach 700.
Because reaching 700 signers by 7:00 would be great!
Because the next meeting of Good Growth DeKalb is at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

      We hope you'll join us!

      North Decatur Presbyterian Church
611 Medlock Rd, Decatur, GA 30033

    18. Reached 500 signatures
    19. Join us for our second rally tomorrow, Jan. 27 at 4:30

      Staci Dixon
      Petition Organizer

Please join us tomorrow for Good Growth DeKalb's 2nd rally against the proposed Walmart Supercenter at Suburban Plaza.

The focus of this week’s protest will be the dangers associated with increased traffic, including potential problems ambulances may access when transporting patients to and between three hospitals in the area.

We'll also sound the call for DeKalb County to conduct its own transportation study in light of DeKalb County Transportation Division Supervising Engineer Patrece Keeter's e-mail requesting a hearing delay. She said, "The Transportation Staff is in the process of reviewing the Selig traffic study and have some questions/discussions that may need to be addressed by the Developer about methodology and results."

Less than 24 hours later, Keeter changed her mind. "January will give us plenty of time to complete the review of the traffic study – thanks." She continued, "We are keeping this as a top priority and hope to resolve ASAP."

Not only will it take away from your town you will see more cases coming to city court for shoplifting so they can make more money from the public. And not all of those cases are actual shoplifting cases. And you won't win against them no matter what you do!
