Save the Leadbeater's possum from extinction

Victoria's faunal emblem; the critically endangered Leadbeater's possum, is going extinct due to wildfires and pulp logging. Since 1998, the tiny possums population has declined by 80% from 5000 to a meagre 1000 left in the wild today. The Victorian government logs the habitat of the Leadbeater's possum and sells it to Nippon owned Australian Paper to make Reflex office papers. This is a cruel and barbaric practice. Nippon/Australian Paper must stop buying wood fibre from endangered species habitat now. Details here

    1. We are reaching many people - let's keep going!

The Leadbeater's possum has never been so well known and everyone wants to help. The first step is to let the buyers of its habitat know that we want native forests and wildlife not copy paper. The solution for Nippon/Reflex is to get the pulpwood from the massive plantation resource available in Australia and protect Australia's last old growth forests. Sign to save!

We have had a really amazing response from this petition. Now we need to double this figure!

Can everyone ask one person to sign. Make sure that your friend understands the challenges for wildlife with out its habitat. It's simple, they die! Logging native forests for paper is happening in every country in the world that has a 'commercial quantity' of native forests. These forests are our lungs, water percolators, temperature regulators and carbon houses. Healthy forests have an ongoing shelf life. Paper has a three month shelf life. The wildlife make the whole thing continue. They form a part of the biodiverse activity that gives us free 'life sustaining products'. Free is important right now as the economic safety nets of the world are weakening. We all need wood products, but sourcing them from the right places is intelligent global forest management.

Please sign the petition and remember to check your papers sources...

The international and Australian community are working hard to educate leaders in the wood chip business on unethical forest practices. This petition is being sent directly to them - please make it viral and get as many people as you can to sign.

This petition is not only going to Nippon Paper and our State leader but to the people out in the forests trying to physically stop the logging in the last home to the Leadbeaters. From the ground team: A Huge THANK YOU!

so much destruction for so little gained, and we subsidise every stick of timber that comes out. There's aboslutely no need to log these forests and every need to protect them and their wildlife

We must respect nature and start working with it. No more extinctions. No more destruction.

There are better ways for those with the will and courage to innovate.

The waste and lack of intelligence of forestry in this state is completely unacceptable and needs to be very urgently addressed. This is definitely an election/voting issue.

This adorable little possum cannot speak up for itself. We humans must do that. STOP LOGGING OUR FUTURE AWAY!
