The Castlebar Youth Information Centre (aka The Kipp) is a vital resource for young people in County Mayo. It is one of the few outlets teenagers, especially younger teenagers have; an alcohol-free, informal, non-religious social space where they can meet and hang out with their friends, and also receive valuable information.

The Kipp is to close after Christmas 2011, and this will also result in job losses for the two staff of the centre.

We believe that the Kipp is a vital resource for young people, who without it will have little or no safe social spaces. We call on the government to provide the funding to prevent the closure of the Kipp.

I have been a volunteer at the Youth Info Centre for the last number of years. Amazing resource for the young people of Castlebar and it would be an absolute shame if it were to go. I give the 'Save The Kipp' campaign my full support.

Kipp is one of the most important things in Castlebar today.

It is somewhere us young people can meet friends and be welcomed into a community with no issues.

It's somewhere where the teenagers of Castlebar could go to be helped and given information.

It would be a shame to see the future youth to miss out on that experience.

as a youth worker I see every day the value of drop in centres and facilities for young people. youth work is seriously underfunded and to cut vital resources is both disgraceful and very short minded.

      hope you keep your YIC!
