Please sign the petition and save "Sundarbans" World Largest Mangrove Forest.

“The Sundarbans” was nominated to be one of the new 7 Wonders of Beauty for 2011.

The world largest mangrove forest Sundarbans is now facing threat from a 1320 MW coal fired power plant. Avoiding peoples mandate and expert’s consensus the primary phase of construction has already begun. In modern days we have lots of things but only one Sundarbans. This gift of nature is neither replaceable nor recoverable. Sundarbans is not the last option for Bangladesh to choose for a 1320 MW power plant and prospective urbanization related to it. That is why we demand to stop all kinds of threatening activity related Sundarbans and save it.

Bangladesh Government is violating international environmental treaty. The Rampal station is against The Ramsar Convention. The Ramsar Convention is the only global environmental treaty that deals with reservation of wetlands. Bangladesh have signed the convention in 1992. Sunderbans and Tanguar Haor are marked as Ramsar area."

This (Rampal) project violates the Environmental Impact Assessment Guidelines for coal-based thermal power plants. The very location of the plant, 14 kilometers from the Sundarbans, violates a basic guideline which dictates that such projects should be outside a 25-kilometer radius from the outer periphery of any ecologically sensitive areas

To:
Prime Minister Hasina "Bangladesh Goverment"
President of the United States
U.S. Senate
U.S. House of Representatives
We urge the government of Bangladesh to immediately stop all activity and stop destroying the World Largest Mangrove.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

“Let's be clear. The planet is not in jeopardy. We are in jeopardy. We haven't got the power to destroy the planet - or to save it. But we might have the power to save ourselves.”

This is the moment when we must come together to save this planet. Let us resolve that we will not leave our children a world where the oceans rise and famine spreads and terrible storms devastate our lands.

      ( Barack Obama)

The Sundarbans is both a national and global natural treasure, and as such It's continued protection deserves our utmost support. A threat to the Sundarbans is a threat to us all.

Coal fired plants are just making your air polluted, and more sustainable forms of power projects should be planned and built . Don't let this coal powered plant just 14 K away from the Sundarbans mangroves, and which violates the Ramsar Convention, destroy this world treasure, the Sundarbans.
