Dear All: its official! Through our combined efforts, SEFC will not be demolished! Trinity's plan now involves a new building (Phase III of the project at the site) which retains the existing gym and pool. BPHC instructed Trinity to redesign a new residential tower which did not require the destruction of the gym and pool after bowing to pressure "from the community" (aka us), possibly the BRA, and our political allies.

We reviewed the plans with Hank Keating and Eva Erlich of Trinity this evening with Counsilor Tito Jackson, Siba Malaba, Legislative aid to Senator Sonia Chang Diaz. Trinity structural engineers worked for months on relocating the tower, partly over the Miranda Creamer building and running alongside Albany street. Hank Keating said they will be pushing to get the project approved asap, especially given uncertainties about the BRA's future. It is the only affordable neighborhood fitness center with adequate facilities. The South End doesn't need another luxury apartment building.

I live in the neighborhood of the South End Fitness center. I feel that the Center adds value to our community and should be preserved.

As a South End resident I believe it is a great health and prevention resource for individuals who are not able to afford the cost of a regular health club.

I think it is great this facility is available in a community where other fitness options can be just too far out of reach.

This facility plays an important role in preserving the health in our neighborhood of both low and high income citizens, as well as students and employees of the nearby Boston Medical School and Hospital.
