Lower Salford Elementary school is located in the heart of the Souderton Area school district and has just celebrated it's 100th anniversary a few short weeks ago. LS, referred to as "Kidsville", is a school whose hallmarks are community, expression, responsibility and choice. The Lower Salford Elementary school is under review and may potentially be closed at the end of the 2012-2013 school year due to the unprecedented budget cuts the district is facing. The result of this potential closing will impact many of the other schools and students in the district as the task of redistricting will be eminent.

Lower Salford isn't just any elementary school, it is a 100 year old landmark in the center of this community. There is a true sense of pride in all that this school has evolved into over the past century.  We, the undersigned, ask that the potential of closing and re-districting Lower Salford Elementary not be considered an option as the district board takes on the task of continued budget cuts. We ask that the district respect and understand the negative effects this kind of change would bring to our community and carefully weigh those with the very short term monetary savings that might be recognized.

With respect for the task you have in front of you, we urge that the closing of this beloved school not be considered.

As the start to a new school year quickly approaches, the deadline for discussions on a potential school closing is imminent.

We cannot make this go away. It is imperative that people fully understand the situation. The PEL report, which is essentially what the administration has based this fact finding mission on, is NOT ACCURATE. The data that is cited in the study with regard to growth in the area is INCORRECT. The reality is, that there is currently, and there will continue to be growth in this area for years to come. These facts have been confirmed by both local and state officials, who have contacted the district administration directly.

In a recent interview with Superintendent Dr. Fredrick Johnson, when asked about this petition, he stated that there were only a few hundred signatures, but thousands of taxpayers in the district. We need your to help! Please share this with others in the community, if you pay taxes here, you have an interest in keeping our school OPEN!!

We cannot express to each of you how important it is that you make every effort to attend these meetings. There continues to be speculation and doubt as to whether or not these efforts are going to make a difference. It is our firm belief that if the district is being fully transparent and forthcoming with their plans, we not only can have an impact on the future of Lower Salford Elementary but we will.

There are very clear laws and process policies in place that are mandated by the state that are there to enable us, as taxpayers and citizens, to be sure that the very BEST decisions are being made for our community, our kids and our tax dollars. We are the only ones who can ask the questions, and ensure that the right thing is being done and hold the district fully accountable.

    4. SASD Board meeting last evening

Thanks to those who were able to attend the meeting last night. It is clear that our school is in serious jeopardy of closing. This will ultimately be our battle to lose if we decide it isn't worth fighting for. Is it? The overwhelming sense from those who attending last evening was YES! It is worth our time and our energy to not only preserve a school that has been a cornerstone of this community for 100 years, but also to pay closer attention to where our tax dollars ARE going and how they are being spent.

How did it come to this? All we see are the cuts that are directly effecting our kids...the programs the activities and now the very school they attend threatened to be closed. If it matters to you, step in, step up and get involved in saving this school.

Thank you for taking the time to show your support for Lower Salford Elementary School! Please continue to share this link with others in the community. Please do your part to stop the rumors that the closing of Lower Salford has already been decided. This is NOT a 'done deal', and no decisions have been finalized. That is why the community needs to be aware if this now, to prevent it from happening! Your support is needed to continue to share the accurate information. It is our individual responsibility as citizens, parents, and community members to be sure that our opposition is heard. Your presence is needed at the school board meetings! The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday June 20th. Please check the district website to confirm location and time. I attended Lower Salford during my elementary school years and have wonderful memories of it. As it enters the 100th anniversary it would be a shame to close its doors. Closing the school would put teachers out of jobs and would make class sizes much bigger across the other elementary schools in the district. I hope our voices are heard in this petition!
