Save FREX

FREX is important to folks who have to work in Denver but choose to live in the Springs. These are citizens who pay taxes here, support our schools and local business, and are our friends and neighbors. Council has underestimated both the ridership factor and the economic values of keeping FREX going, as well as the social and environmental benefit of the FREX system. Please sign the petition and help keep FREX going - it's just good for Colorado Springs. For more, go to www.savefrex.org.

We need to keep writing to the mayor, at SBach@springsgov.com and tell him not to ignore Council's decision, and to do all he can to keep FREX going. Doing the right thing is not always related to the most economical thing.

As of today, we have 1,021 signatures of people who believe that FREX is a service we need in our community. We have presented the initial petition toPPRTA, City Council and the CDOT transit director, and many of us have attended meetings to express our continued concern about continuing zfREX service after the end of August. City Council will take the matter up for a final decision at the june 12 meeting, and now is the time for all of us to make our voices heard once again to restate the need for keeping going and making Colorado Springs the leader in mass transit for the Front Range cities. Please write to your council person (e-mail address attached) and the mayor urging that they keep FREX on the road. It would also be a good thing to write the Gazette, the Independent and the Tri-lakes Tribune to express concern and ask for support for keeping FREX going. As always, thanks for supporting our bus!

The Colorado Springs Independent reported this week that after the PPRTA folks presented the comments from the public meetings, along with our petition and the associated comments. The results were not conclusive but the Coincil is finally taking a longer look at the situation.and our position is looking a lot more positive. Please make sure we keep the pressure up and keep on telling all your facebool, twitter and e-mail friends and contacts to sign and write the council and mayor. Thanks SO MUCH to everyone who supported the effort to save our bus!

Thanks for all the support - PLEASE keep it going! Use you facebook, twitter and e-mail contacts to spread the word. If enough sign, hopefully the city and CDOT officials will realize there's a solid, viable ridership base for FREX, and will keep it going! Thanks again.

    7. Town Hall Meeting

Meeting in Monument - presented petition and made arguments, had quite a lot of support, and there were some excellent points made. The Mountain Metro admn types there were very detailed as to why they are recommending that FREX go away. Short version, FREX is the only program that can be cut to keep the fixed route and ADA system going, even without additions or improvements. They promised fairly sincerely to take the comments and concerns to the mayor and council, and to keep on exploring possibilities with CDOT for keeping FREX going until an area-wide system along the front range can be put in place. I feel they will do this, but I also think the mayor will get his way. Once FREX goes, it won't be back soon if at all. They did tell us that the decision was put off until June, and that may give us some hope. Please keep the pressure on with the petition and by writing council and the mayor, and start contacting mark Imhoff of CDOT - use their website for his e-mail. Thanks to all!

The effort to save FREX continues to gather steam - nearly 700 signatures now and still growing. The team from www.savefrex.org is contacting student and faculty at CC & UCCS, and gathering postcards to present to council. I've written letters to the editors of the Gazette, the Independent & the Tri-Lakes Tribune plus all the local TV stations as well as to city council. In a survey cited online recently, keeping FREX going is the second- highest priority of citizens in the PPRTA area. Please continue to share on Facebook, Twitter and you e-mail lists. Let's put this over the top!

We are now over the 500 mark, and still growing. It's gratifying to see the support for this critical bus service develop. We are getting ready for a big push in the next couple of weeks, and I'd encourage all of you who've signed and supported the effort to start writing to the Colorado Springs city council and to the editors of the Gazette and the Monument Tri-Lakes Tribune to help publicize the effort. In reading the most recent statistics I can find about FREX, I believe that Mayor Bach and his supporters in council and the Transportation Advisory board are selling the value of FREX seriously short. We can show them that they are wrong, and that we need FREX to continue! Thanks for your support!

It seems the people making the decision to discontinue the FREX do not ride the FREX or they don't care because it don't affect them. What happen to taking cars off the road for the enviroment? If FREX is discontinued you will have families uprooting to where there jobs are or families that have one car will have to buy another car or find another job which could impact their personal lives. The riders that ride the FREX contribute to the community by paying taxes, by produce, and paying their mortagages. Also, with all the car accidents on I-25 do we really want more cars on the interstate? Bottom line: to lose the FREX would be a disservice to all the families in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas. Furthermore, this city accident rate is bad enough now with an increase of additionial cars on I-25 it will only get worst. Instead of discontinuing the FREX, why don't the council and the mayor think of ways to utilize the FREX on the weekend, There are families that don't have cars and would like to go to Denver or even Pueblo on the weekends which can bring in money for the city also what about all those veterans who utilitze the FREX to get to the VA hospital and the young adults who attend college ending the FREX is not the answer. THINK ABOUT IT.
