Save Energy: Unplug your cell phone charger when not in use!

There are an estimated 190 million cell phones in the United States. A quick back of the envelope calculation says that the combined stand-by usage of all those cell phone chargers, each drawing a measly watt, could add up to 190 megawatts per day. That's enough to power approximately 100,000 homes!

My boyfriend and I have our main electronics plugged into a power strip which we unplug every night when we go to bed. Our wall switch also cuts the power to the plug it uses. We've tried to take this into every room of our house by unplugging things in the bathroom ,living room, bedroom and other rooms as well.

Kitchen appliances are a huge draw. Toasters, coffee makers and other such items should be unplugged too.

you would be surprised how much energy your Xbox uses when it's off...unplug it!

We have been unplugging AC adapters for several years now. Additionally we have computers and peripherals plugged into power strips. We turn off the poser strip after shutting down the computer. Basically, if you see a device with a glowing LED, the device is using electricity even if you're not using the device.

This is a good suggestion. Not only does it save a bit of energy, it also prolongs the life of the charger (which in my experience, is not very long).

Cuts a little energy use -- although my cat misses having the cord on the floor.
