Save Compassion Farm

Dirk Becker changed an abandoned gravel pit into a beautiful vegetable and fruit farm. He is being forced to cease his gardening even though Lantzville is in the process of modifying the bylaw to allow people to grow food.  He has been told to stop farming and that he is not allowed to sell his food. There are numerous benefits of growing food and allowing your neighbors access to locally grown food. Building community, food security, educating people (adults and children) on where their food comes from, the list really goes on. Have you ever seen a child pull a carrot out of the ground that he or she helped to plant? Growing food is a human right that should be encouraged.

don't policy makers have anything better to do than nit pick peaceable citizens who BENEFIT communities, promoting city/town PRIDE, rather than discord?

      LEAVE PEACEABLE PEOPLE ALONE!

THIS FELLOW BRINGS COMMERCE INTO YOUR TOWN AND YOU WANT HM TO STOP?

      BAD MOVE!

THE SUSTAINABILITY MOVEMENT IS GAINING SPEED PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GREAT LENGTHS TO BUY FROM ECO RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE, AND YOU WANT THESE PEOPLE TO GO ELSE WHERE?

PEOPLE SEEK OUT PEACEABLE "BACK TO NATURE" TYPE PLACES TO LIVE, NOT THE CITIZENS HAVE NO SAY PLACES.

WHERE I LIVE, THERE ARE LIKE 3 HOUSES ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER FOR SALE ON MANY RESIDENCIAL AREAS I KNOW OF AT LEAST 6-8 IN A 1 MILE RADIUS. THEY ARE MOVING OUT OF TOWN BECAUSE PROPERTY TAXES ARE TOO HIGH. THEY EVEN MAKE ANY BUILDING THAT PEOPLE CAN LEGALLY SLEEP IN (HOUSES, HOTELS, MOTELS, RESORTS, ETC) THAT FACE A LAKE OR MOUNTAIN, PAY AN EXTRA "VIEW TAX" ON TOP OF "PRIME REAL ESTATE" INFLATED PURCHASE PRICES.

SO THIS STATE HAS VAST TRACTS OF UNDEVELOPED LAND BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO PAY THE INFLATED COSTS.

THIS IS GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, BUT NOT SO GOOD FOR THE TOWN, PEOPLE WILL CHOOSE TO LIVE ELSEWHERE THAT IS SIMILAR BUT NOT SO RESTRICTIVE OR EXPLOITIVE OF IT'S CITIZENS.

Stop growing and selling food? Aren't laws supposed to protect people?

Unbelievable, unacceptable what is wrong with those people. Shame on Lantzville, you should be encouraging this and using him as an example of what people can and should be doing
