Euthanasia by gas chamber is inhumane to all animals and the residents of rowan county are funding it with our own taxes. This outdated and cruel practice is happening every day at the Rowan County, NC Animal Control Shelter and it's time we finally put an end to it.
The Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, American Veterinary Medical Association, National Animal Control Association, the American Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights all advocate lethal injection of sodium pentobarbitol. It is considered the most humane, safest, and least stressful choice for euthanasia.
We consider euthanasia by injection (EBI) to be the only acceptable and humane means of euthanasia for all shelter animals. Please help us by signing this petition to bring in front of the Rowan County Board of Commissioners. Stand up for the rights of our shelter pets, they need us!
UPDATE: puppies/kittens, nursing moms and some "friendly" animals are being euthanized by injection. We want to be as clear and accurate as possible and our intention is not to provide misinformaiton. In addition, the gas chamber at Rowan County does have segmented kennels where each animal is placed, so they do not have contact with each other.
For more information please download the American Humane Association's fact sheet comparing the gas chamber to EBI
And also, please please please consider adopting a shelter pet from the Rowan County Animal Shelter.
Thank you for your support.
