Ride a bike, take the bus, walk rather than drive my car

As a means of ending my personal dependancy on oil I am making a commitment to myself, my community, and the plants, animals, and wildlife that I love so much that I will ride my bike, walk, take the bus, or carpool whenever it is possible. Each and every day I promise to make a conscious effort to use means other than my vehicle to get to work, school, and to run errands. I ask that others join the effort to stop dependancy on oil by using transportation that will decrease dependancy on oil. The benefits from using other forms of transportation go far beyond the oil; the environment benefits and your health benefits. Who could ask for more?!?!

I ride to work everyday and on most of my errands.  I try to obey traffic laws and give dirty looks to people in SUV's

I think this is the single biggest thing that every average person in America can do to fight global climate change.  Not just that, but it helps in countless other ways as well.  Try it.  It's not fun at first (well maybe the first time, but not the fiftieth), especially if you live in sprawling auto-based suburbs like I do, but in a few years I guarantee you'll have an entirely different perspective on transportation, geography, your body and its relation to the world.  At that point it actually gets to be fun again. And maybe we'll all start to realize it was kind of a bad idea to put black tar over so much of our homeland.

I live in New York.  I moved here a year ago.  I don't need a car and I will probably never own one again.  Which makes me happy!

Thank you for a great goal for all! I gratefully walked to the store today to grab a couple things, and, may I say, in wonderful stormy weather. As I loaded my backpack though the checkout, people kept questioning my "lack of transportation" especially in this weather, and all I could say in response was "It is beautiful on so many levels!"

I take the bus to work and I absolutely love being able to relax and read!
