Bring Back The Morning Mix Now On KPFA!

    1. Petition by

      Morning Mix Now

      Berkeley, CA

Support local community programming at Pacifica and KPFA.

We oppose the gentrification and displacement of the 8:00 AM Morning Mix show on KPFA with a network show “Uprising" hosted by Sonali Kolhatkar from LA. A new small majority of the Pacifica board of directors are replacing local community programs with what they perceive as higher value national programming. We believe that the need for local community labor programming in prime-time is a key factor in building support locally and regionally for KPFA and all Pacifica Stations. We strongly urge the KPFA Interim General Manager Richard Pirodsky, Pacifica Executive Director Bernard Duncan, Pacifica Board Chair Margy Wilkinson and the Board of Directors to respect and support the needs of the listeners in protecting and advancing local community programming throughout the network. We pledge to boycott listening to the Uprising Show weekdays from 8:00 to 9:00 AM on KPFA if this programming from LA continues to replace the local Morning Mix.

Because the truth is not widely allowed to be heard and seen in the so-called "mainstream media" - a misnomer meaning "what most people get to hear", not meaning that it truly reflects the interests nor needs of the main portion of our society. TV, radio, the on-line news sources, and remaining newspapers are mostly controlled and reflective of the 1% and their interests, as I see it.. But the truth will out, if enough people stand up for KPFA and Pacifica, and continue the struggle. While some people regard the persistent tensions at KPFA over many decades as "in-fighting among the Left", I believe that the real issue at bottom is that those tensions are caused by the overall class struggle in the USA - driven by the ultra-rightists. But, whether or not I am right about that, I am sure that this cutting of hours and time shift of Morning Mix program serves the 1%, not the 90+%! Of course, everything has it's opposites, and even KPFA may not always get to the truth, though most programs reflect an effort to do so. Thus, we need to call for return of Moning Mix to previous status and time, and to see to it that KPFA continues being a community based radio station that represents a wide variety of voices, of differing "truths".

I have been a regular listener to the Morning Mix. Miss it a lot.

As an activist, I find it to be the most accessible to those of us who organize. Other programs feature analysis -- good analysis, but many activists do not have time to write a book.

Drive-time local programming is essential for a 'People's Radio'.
