Victory

From petition creator: Ripper Street, a BBC television programme, was cancelled last year. We set up a petition and as of today we have over 40,200 signatures. The BBC announced today that it would be joining forces with Amazon Prime Instant Video to produce a third series. Ripper Street has been saved! Filming is set for May and hopefully that means we'll see the show before the end of the year. A great achievement considering the show was dumped and we thought we would never see it again. Thanks to everyone who signed the petition.

As TV licence holders, taxpayers and Ripper Street fans, we object to the BBC's rash programming decision to cancel quality drama Ripper Street because it was not "successful" in the ratings against mindless reality show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

The purpose of a public broadcaster is to produce content that is in the public interest and not swayed by commerical pressures such as ratings.

It is appalling that British culture is being determined by brainless celebrity reality shows.

This cannot go on and we demand that the BBC uses our licence payments to produce and show us teleivison that we deserve to watch and will educate us and make our lives greater not dumb us down.

We remind the BBC that at a time when it is celebrating the 50 years success of Doctor Who that programmes need time to grow and find an audience. Had the BBC cancelled Doctor Who in 1963 after its initial ratings failure, we wouldn't be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

We call on the BBC to accept it has made a mistake and reverse its decision to axe Ripper Street and commence production on a third season immediately.

Reverse the BBC's decision to cancel Ripper Street

Sincerely,

Ripper Street to return: Axed drama will get third series

Ripper Street is to return for a third series, it was announced today (February 26). The BBC One period thriller was axed last year, with the broadcaster citing declining viewership as the reason for its cancellation. However, Amazon Prime Instant Video - formerly LoveFilm - has now struck a deal to revive the drama, which stars Matthew Macfadyen , Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg.

      Hello Ripper Street fans,

With the last episode of the second series of Ripper Street just having aired on the BBC in the UK tonight, we are left wondering about the fate of the characters in the fantastic British drama.

This episode was hugely dramatic and only shows what a magnificent show Ripper Street has become.

Over the past two weeks, we have had great publicity in newspapers and on the web. And it has resulted in TigerAspect - the maker of Ripper Street - talking to LoveFilm about making the show directly for online viewing - the BBC says it may buy it afterwards. Whether this all happens, we don't know but it is a positive movement and it gives us hope that Reid, Drake, Jackson, Long Susan and the other beloved characters will come back next series and continue their stories on the streets of 1890s Whitechapel.

      Please pass on th

There are so few quality programmes coming out of the bbc and when they get any they seem to think its ok to sell it off to the highest bidder. Outrageous

I love this show! It's fun! It's intelligent! and most importantly, it isn't full of brain-dead, mostly naked bimbos that can't think for themselves...please, save this show!
