PETITION MAILED: On October 21, 2012 to Villiage Voice Media HQ in NYC

More than 27 million people are enslaved worldwide! Every year over 1million people get trafficked in AMERICA! 80% are women and 50% are children. 300,000 children out of the 1 million are used for the SEX INDUSTRY! These children start out as young as 3! Many people think that most of these children come from different countries, that couldnt be further from the truth. In fact most of these children are our children, right here in America, right here in our own backyards!

This "business" profits more than 31 billion dollars each year! One of the sites that is being used to sell children as "sex slaves" is Backpage.com, which is owned by Village Voice Media, a website which companies can use to advertise on. Village Voice Media claims they are doing all that they can to stop these predators, and claims that there is no issue on their site, so they are unwilling to shut down the adult section of their site. If you go on the adult section or any section on Backpage.com you will see pictures of children as young as 15, or younger being sold for sex.

Though the starting age for child prostitution is 11-12 and boys ages 8-9, the demands are more and YOUNGER!

“Five websites that carry prostitution advertisements in the United States set a record with combined revenue of nearly $3.3 million during January. The total was up 1.4 percent from December and 3.3 percent from January 2011.

About 70 percent of the revenue was attributed to Backpage.com, which generated at least $2.6 million from the sale of online ads for prostitution and body rubs in 23 U.S. cities… prostitution advertising in 23 U.S. cities has generated at least $36.3 million, the AIM Group estimates. More than two-thirds of that amount, $25.4 million, was generated by Backpage.com, a general classifieds site owned by Village Voice Media.” (AIM GROUP)

Backpage.com is similar to Craigslist.

How can we just stay silent as the innocence of thousands of children is being taken away each day? No child deserves to be sold into sex slavery. It's time for us to stand up for what is right. It's time for these children to know that there are people in this world who care about them and want to do something to rescue them from the horrific scene of child sex trafficking.

These actions not only destroy childrens childhood, but impacts their relationships later in life. They deserve to be taken care of, to have dignity, and a childhood.

The dignity of a child is sacrosanct. Every child deserves a childhood where they are respected. Every Child counts on someone to help them enjoy their childhood.

We can't stand as a nation if we don't stand for righteousness.
