Give South African Gamers the CHOICE to play Titanfall

      Johannesburg, South Africa

Many South African gamers took part in the Titanfall beta and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. The game ran buttery-smooth, was incredibly fun and had great lag compensation such that the experience was still amazing even at the latency disadvantage. We pre-ordered the title through Origin and various online outlets eagerly anticipating the game's release on March 11th (13th in EU). We did so with the full knowledge that we have no Microsoft Azure Servers in South Africa and would most certainly have a disadvantage playing with 180+ ping by connecting to EU servers.

On March 7th 2014, the official pre-loading date on Origin and a mere 3 days from release, EA announced the following via a facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/EAGamesSouthAfrica/posts/10151922412992407?stream_ref=10 "After conducting recent online tests for Titanfall, we found that the performance rates in South Africa were not as high as we need to guarantee a great experience, so we have decided not to release Titanfall in South Africa at this time. We understand this is a disappointment for local fans and will keep fans posted on any future plans regarding the release of Titanfall in South Africa".

This was confirmed by Vince Zampella (founder or Respawn) via twitter: https://twitter.com/VinceZampella/status/441831190505340928

We believe that this should be OUR decision to make. We enjoyed the experience so much that we are willing to pay the admission price and put up with high latency in order to play this game. Many of us were swept up in the post-beta hype and eagerly awaited our shiny new Titan on March 11th, this announcement is not only a huge disappointment, but a kick in the teeth to all FPS gamers in South Africa. We have been putting up with bad latencies to EU and US for many years in order to enjoy our favourite titles in a multiplayer environment. Please don't take away what might be one of the best FPS titles of the decade, on the pretense that we would not enjoy the experience with a higher latency.

With this in mind we humbly petition Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment to make the game available to South Africans on release date, and give us the CHOICE to play Titanfall.

Even though this petition is aimed at the PC version of Titanfall, we believe it should be made available to South African gamers across all platforms.

Apologies for not updating the news feed here but we have been keeping people in the loop on our Facebook page. We have decided to transition into a South African Titanfall community group and stop pushing for the release in ZA given how easy it is to get and play the game anyway. Our reasons have been articulated in this post:

      https://www.facebook.com/BuildOurTitansZA/posts/10152280859606620

The petition will NOT be going down! We will keep it open until such time that Respawn and EA give us some news regarding Titanfall in South Africa. However, we do NOT plan to actively protest the non-release any longer. We might continue creating funny cartoons and memes about our situation but the letters, twitter campaigns and deadlines will stop.

Thank you for all your support, we hope that you are enjoying playing Titanfall as much as we are! Join us on our weekly Thursday Night Titanfall parties and drop a line on our Facebook page. May your Titan always come first pilots!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Build Our Titans ZA is transitioning into a ZA Titanfall gaming community. Well what an eventful 3 weeks it has been since EA and Respawn announced that Titanfall wasn't going to be released in South Africa on March 7th!

Just get a non-region locked key and redeem it through Origin. We used www.kinguin.net but this lazygamer article: http://www.lazygamer.net/south-africa/yes-titanfall-does-work-in-south-africa/ suggests www.evopoints.co.za which is the cheaper alternative.

Although this is a work around it is a VERY simple one. We would suggest you take all that pent up frustration over the last couple of days and unleash it on some unsuspecting EU pilots!

Where does this leave us? Well we feel that the cancellation was completely unnecessary if it really is THIS easy to get the game. We would like to continue pushing EA and Respawn for the real reasons why they cancelled in ZA... but our goal was to give ZA pilots the CHOICE to play Titanfall. It seems that choice is available (through no actions of our own) and every ZA pilot who wants to play the game now, can do so.

Within 2 days of the announcement that Titanfall will be canned in South Africa over 1,000 pilots (both local and international) have made their disapproval known. Next step is an open letter to EA and Respawn in the hopes that we can get some answers from them as a collective player base... this is just the beginning pilots. Continue to spread the word and keep getting others to sign the petition. We might be a small community but we have a voice that demands attention.

Titanfall not coming to South Africa due to poor network performance

Titanfall will not launch in South Africa next week due to poor network performance in the region, Electronic Arts and developer Respawn Entertainment have confirmed. "After conducting recent online tests for Titanfall, we found that the performance rates in South Africa were not as high as we need to guarantee a great experience, so we have decided not to release Titanfall in South Africa at this time," EA said on its Facebook page.
