Repeal the RI Seat Belt Law

    1. Petition by

      Matt Allen

The intrusion of law enforcement into the everyday lives of RI citizens is not worth the possible safety implications of resulting seat belt use. Rhode Island's current seat belt usage rate stands at 80% which negates any urgent need for a law. The 85 dollar fine is outrageous and the effect on the relationship between law enforcement and the citizens of the state will suffer as they enforce the tyrannical statute.

Because I was a victim of this seatbelt law. the officer pulled me over for no reason searched my car and at the end slapped my with this ticket because he said I couldnt keep my mouth shut. You cant force people to have common sense I am a adult if i feel i dont want to wear a seatbelt I should be able to do what I please. Stand up to this we dont need big goverment controlling every aspect of our lives.

Cops are using this as a money making scheme. I was pulled over and falsely accused of my passenger not being belted. The trooper said "well if he was buckled, I couldn't see it." No shit, sherlock. I've already been to court once to plead not guilty and was given another court date. That means 2 mornings off of work. This is outrageous.

The 'Seat Belt Law' is just one more step down the insideous do-gooder's road to an all-powerful Nanny State dictatorship. Once our personal liberties are gone we will never get them back.

Just another way for the state to make money off the people. It's a gross violation of my freedom of choice.
