District Judge G. Todd Baugh of Yellowstone County, Montana sentenced a teacher with just 30 days for raping a 14 year old student who later committed suicide
What is worse is in his sentencing statement the judge said the teenager was “as much in control of the situation” as her 49-year-old teacher, adding the girl was “older than her chronological age.”
Teachers need to know that they cannot use their position of power and influence to target the students that they are entrusted with.
Judges need to know that they are responsible to public safety and not as an enabler of predators!

(Reuters) - A Montana prosecutor said on Friday he intended to appeal as too lenient a 31-day sentence for a former teacher who raped a teenage student who later committed suicide.

District Judge G. Todd Baugh has come under harsh criticism since sentencing former Billings high school teacher Stacey Rambold on Monday to 15 years in prison, then suspending all but 31 days of that term, for the 2007 rape of 14-year-old Cherice Moralez.

(Reuters) - Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on Thursday outside the offices of a Montana judge to protest a one-month sentence he gave an ex-teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old student who later killed herself and the judge's remarks suggesting the victim was partly at fault.

Baugh apologized in a letter to the Billings Gazette on Wednesday, saying his words were “demeaning of all women.” He also said that although a 14-year-old “obviously” cannot consent to sex, “I think that people have in mind that this was some violent, forcible, horrible rape.… It was horrible enough as it is just given her age, but it wasn’t this forcible beat-up rape.”

Because if he lets something like this off who knows what else he's let slide someone like that does not deserve the power to decide such crucial things

The sentence is a joke. This is a clear case of statutory rape. PERIOD. Nothing else is important. She was 14 years old and not of age to GIVE consent. Now tragically the young girl is deceased and her family have to live with the horror of this judge shaming her in a court room. Unthinkable.

Judges are put in the position they hold to protect children, not make excuses for monsters.
