Reinstate Father Bob Maguire as Parish Priest South Melbourne #SaveFatherBob

Father Bob is a national icon. Every week he is heard nationally on Radio JJJ with John Safran on Sunday nights. He has lived and worked in South Melbourne for over 40 years. His work in South Melbourne is of great importance to both the parish and broader community. He stands for social justice and works tirelessly for the poor and disadvantaged. The Presbytery is his home and he should be permitted to continue living there whilst he is still active and able to continue his work. When he requires assistance a younger priest can be appointed as his assistant. His pews overflow and he is respected and desperately needed by the Sth Melbourne Parish and broader community. We object to him being removed and demand that Archbishop Hart re-instate Father Bob as Parish Priest of South Melbourne without restriction.

Father Bob should be recognised for the hope, humour, compassion & spiritual awareness he's always offered the community and Catholic Church.

The church needs people like Father Bob. He should be allowed to continue to work as he wishes, especially after so many years of faithful service. How awful to turf an elderly man out of the only home he has known for more than half of his life! It's not as though he is sick and needs care. He's well and active and wants to work as he has always done. No good reason so far why he can't.

I am a former parisishoner of Father Bobs and worked with him on the Emerald Hll Mission. I have seen the work and the good that he does. I have seen how he has changed peoples lives for the better. He brought the Catholic Church to the people and made it accessible for everyone. He is the living embodiment of what Jesus wanted and believed. He is one in a hundred million. He is a national treasure and it is a crime to take him away from his people. I have heard the petty excuses that the Catholic Church have given for making him retire and it is pathetic politics at its best. Politics and religion should never mix. What this man has done fore the underpriviliged and suffering in his community is nothing less than incredible. This has set the Catholic Church back a hundred years and the underpriviliged in Melbourne willbe the ones who suffer
