Tell Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Mackie, to drop all felonious charges against Bashir Garain.  Bashir Garain, 18, Pioneer High School senior, along with two other African-American boys, are being charged with felonies for the Huron vs Pioneer football Brawl. The brawl consisted of at least 60 participating players of all ethnic backgrounds. However, not one player of non African-American descent has been suspended, expelled and/or criminally charged with felonies. Their coaches were the initiators of this brawl. None of whom have been found criminally responsible. One was fired (Coach Vince Wortmann, African-American), one has retired (Coach Paul Test) and the other (Coach Corry Gildersleeve) whom incited the riotous brawl, is still employed (Test/Gildersleeve, non African-American). These players were defending themselves in a hail of chaos. It appears as if prosecuting attorney Brian Mackie and whomever else, is sacrificing these African-American boys lives to cover up gross misconduct and negligence committed by the coaches, athletic directors, school administrators and the Ann Arbor Police department. These are good boys who deserve a honest chance at becoming good men.

URGENT. Bashir Garain because he is 18 is being charged as an adult. He is appearing infront of Judge Donald Sheldon whom does not have the best reputation amongst African-Americans.

Sign the petition then contact Bob Mackie (prosecutormackie@ewashtenaw.org), your congressman (http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/), your pastor, the news, NAACP (info@detroitnaacp.org), NAN  (Rev Al Sharpton, nandetroit@gmail.com), the AAPS School Board (boe@a2schools.org) ask questions and spread the word. Just do something. It takes a village to SAVE a child. TOGETHER WE MUST STOP THIS MODERN DAY LYNCHING!!!

This is a huge injustice. The coaches should be held accountable for this altercation. Yes the football players were involved, but would it have escalated to the degree that it did without the coaches setting the example? To hold a single student and charge him as an adult with a felony that will potentially ruin his life, affect his chances for college and more is quite simply wrong. Why can't the justice system in Ann Arbor see this? If he is convicted of a felony he is marked as a outcast for life. The fact that he is an African American, and was the only one singled out for felony charges is certainly suspect. Wake up Ann Arbor and do something about this! These charges should be dismissed with a stern warning and that is it. A moment of indiscretion fueled by the example of coaches that are held in high regard by players is not the way to treat our most valuable asset, our young people. Let this young man go on with his life and not let it be ruined by one minor mistake. Peter Blanshard, Ann Arbor

It is wrong to charge these juveniles and not the adults that started the fight. Drop the charges against this child!

I played football with Bashir during my Senior year when he was only a junior and he is a good kid. I was on the sidelines for the season opener against Warren De LaSalle this year and I saw the deepest sadness on his face when he tore his ACL on his first couple plays of his senior year. He's been through a lot of deep shit already this year with losing his senior season and doesn't need this either. These charges are uncalled for and should be dropped. You don't see any charges against the coach from Huron who started this whole thing anyways. If Huron could put a decent team on the field that actually competes then this whole thing wouldn't have happened anyways. Regardless though, Bashir doesn't deserve this and these charges should be dropped.

Bashir is a good young man that attends my Church often and has done community services projects also before the brawl started by the coaches.
