Protect Kentucky's Homeless Animals

    1. Petition by

      Animal Legal Defense Fund

Despite passage of the “Humane Shelter Law," many Kentucky counties are treating the animals in their care with reckless disregard for the suffering that they are causing. This misconduct continues because the Humane Shelter Law has no enforcement provision and the state has not stepped in and demanded that the basic standards of care required by the Law be provided to these animals.

Please sign ALDF's petition to Governor Steve Beshear asking him to step in and end the suffering of all innocent animals in Kentucky by pressing the legislature to act and have the state take back responsibility for oversight of these shelters.

Kentucky doesn't have a stellar reputation when it comes to animals. For one, it's one of the Five Best States to Be an Animal Abuser. It's also home to the Kentucky Derby, which, contrary to popular mythmaking, isn't really that great for the horses...

People need to vote unacting authorities acting irresponsibly to future generations and living creatures out of occupations once and for all!

This isnt' right thaat in 2004, the State of Kentucky abdicated its responsibility to protect all citizens by relinguishing the authority to oversee and regulate animal shelter in each county in the State! Despite passage of the Humane Shelter Law that year, many Kentucky counties are treating the animals with reckless disregard for their suffering. This continues cause the Shelter Law has no enforcement provision and the State has not stepped in and demanded that the basic standards of care required by the Law be met! I understand that dogs ande cats are routinely being euthanize and even shot which is illegal under that law and no attempt is made to find their owners or adopt them out! As a supporter of the Animal Defence Fund, I strongly urge you to step in and end the suffering of all innocent animals in Kentucky by pressing the Legislature to act and have the State take back responsibility for the oversight of these shelters!

God created the animal kingdom to be our companions through our life journeys. He made mankind to be their protectors. We are failing...
