HB 289:

Did you know sexual relations (bestiality) with an animal is NOT specifically prohibited in Ohio?

In Shelby, Ohio, 31 year old Peter Bower was arrested for sexually abusing a 3 year old shepherd mix dog that he had adopted from the Richland County Dog Shelter in early May.  On May 27, Bower entered an INNOCENT plea and is charged with ONLY TWO MISDEMEANOR COUNTS of animal cruelty for the rape of the innocent dog.  According to The Mansfield News Journal, "the man's computer confiscated after the allegations the man posted stories and photos of himself and multiple animals in the act”. Animals included three dogs and a horse.  The postings date back to 2006. The article also goes on to say "the North Third Street man was arrested at his Mansfield workplace May 18 and charged with injuring animals, a second-degree misdemeanor, and companion animal prohibitions, a first-degree misdemeanor".

The dog was examined by a veterinarian and suffered physical trauma and pain from the abuse. The dog has been removed from the man's home for NOW.  He was able to post bond and is now out of jail to freely continue with raping animals. The 31 yr-old Shelby man will face a pre-trial hearing at the end of July. Bestiality is not a crime in Ohio, therefore the rape of this innocent dog is ONLY a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty. According to the Michigan State University College of Law, approximately 30 states have enacted laws that prohibit sexual contact between humans and animals. 4. Man Who Admitted To Bestiality Offers Dog-Sitting Services, Arrested

Peter Bower was arrested on June 8th after violating the terms of his probation by posting on a web site that he was available to dog-sit. If bestiality was a FELONY in Ohio, chances are he would have received a jail sentence at his sentencing in November instead of probation. Please help make this a law in Ohio and the states where bestiality is not a law! Obviously probation does not help!

    6. No jail time for animal abuse

Thank you so much for your support of this petition. Since bestiality is not a felony in Ohio, the man mentioned in this petition DID NOT RECEIVE ANY JAIL TIME for his sexual abuse of the helpless animals. His sentence included a $500 fine, 80 days of community service, two years probation, a sexual evaluation and sex addiction classes. On a positive note, he is banned from owning animals. Please continue sharing this petition so those who rape animals get sentenced to prision and not just a slap on the wrist. Make bestiality a felony!

It pays for activists to be tenacious and patient. Who would have thought that it would take three  long years and a petition on for bestiality to be outlawed in Florida? On May 26, Governor Rick Scott signed SB 344 into law, making it a...

The link between animal abuse and greater, more violent crimes against women and children has been well documented. In fact most serial killers admit to starting out abusing then torturing and killing animals. Unfortunately Mr. Bower will eventually get bored with an obedient victim on a leash and then how big of a leap do you think it will be for him to go from raping his dog to raping a child? What message does the leniency of these charges against Mr. Bower send to others out there just like him? Do you really want them having a convention in Cincinnati? Or Cleveland, even? I can just hear the conversation now..."Let's have it somewhere in Ohio next year. After all, bestiality is just a slap on the wrist there. And I even heard they will let you pick out a fresh date at the shelter first."

Please, PLEASE don't let them think Ohio has no compassion for the care, dignity, well being and humane treatment of companion animals, or any animal for that matter.

Animals are created by GOD and granted the inalienable rights to be treated humanely and mercifully, and to not be abused, tormented, tortured, or otherwise subjected to injustice.

Furthermore, GOD has forbidden intercourse or sex of any kind between humans and animals, no exceptions whatsoever.
