Boulevard Restaurant, and their sister restaurant, Prospect Restaurant in San Francisco are serving foie gras, in spite of the impending California foie gras ban, which takes effect on July 1st. These restaurants feature cruel and soon to be illegal foie gras--grossly enlarged liver from ducks force fed massive quantities of food to the point where they are sick and dying. I have witnessed the horrors of Sonoma Foie Gras with my own eyes. The ducks at Sonoma Foie Gras are absolutely terrified of humans. The claim by chefs that they run up to be fed is pure nonsense. You could see pure terror in the eyes of the ducks upon the very sight of people. They toppled over each other in their pens to get as far back into the pens (and away from humans) as possible. There were ducks that could not get up and ducks that had difficulty standing, walking and breathing. All of the ducks were heavily panting, which is a sign of extreme stress. They were covered in fecal waste and regurgitated corn mash. There were dead ducks and ducks that were very close to death. There were trash cans filled with dead ducks, thrown away like garbage. These same conditions were documented by the Animal Protection and Rescue League at Hudson Valley Foie Gras in upstate New York.

Foie gras is supported by only a handful of chefs who lack the creative vision to create delicacies that aren't produced by extreme animal cruelty.  

Recently, the chefs promoting foie gras have been claiming that geese and ducks engorge their livers naturally to migrate.  However, the particular breed of duck that is used for foie gras production is not a migrating species and would not gorge themselves.  And, geese and ducks who do migrate would not gorge themselves to the point of organ failure, as can be found in force feeding. If ducks "gorge" themselves, they shouldn't need to force feed them and shouldn't have any problem with a law against force feeding. 

This is an issue Californians are overwhelmingly opposed to. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, along with 7 other city councils, including LA and San Diego, have passed resolutions calling on restaurants to stop serving cruel foie gras.

Please sign the petition urging these restaurants to remove cruel foie gras from their menus.

      Update! I just received an email from Campton Place Restaurant in San Francisco that they have removed cruel foie gras from their menu, just two days after we created this petition on change.org.

      If you would like to send them a message thanking them for removing cruel foie gras, you can do so at dine@camptonplacesf.com. If you do email them, please also ask that they do not support any changes to the impending California foie gras ban, which takes effect on July 1, 2012.

      The two other restaurants on this petition, Prospect Restaurant and Boulevard Restaurant must be encouraged to do the same! Please make sure to sign and share this petition and urge Prospect and Boulevard to remove cruel foie gras from their menu.

      People need to become aware of the atrocities that animals are subjected to for their pleasure. Whether it be fur or food, animals didn't not choose this life. We have the ability to stop this abuse.

      Please stop the horrible inhumane torture to supply your restaurant with Foie Gras. It is completely unnecessary. Stop keeping this practice going. Stop selling this to customers. Stop the industry from torturing theses ducks and geese. They force feed them to enlarge their livers. It is very painful and agonizing. You are a sick contributor that keeps this torture going. Any restaurant that continues to offer this sick dish of suffering will be banned for good. The torture of this is well known and pressure on restaurants like yours won't stop. If you have any type of heart and human feelings you will stop this immediately.
