Drop Ched Evans from the League One team of the year

    1. Petition by

Ched Evans of Sheffied United has been convicted of rape, and yet the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) have still included him in their end of season honours list. As a secondary school teacher working with young and impressionable people who see sports professionals - and especially footballers - as role models, I feel that the PFA are sending out a very troubling message. As a professional body, they have a responsibility to ensure that the public see them upholding certain values about sports professionals.

Sign this petition to convince them that honouring Ched Evans is tacitly condoning his behaviour.

    2. Still Waiting For a Response From the PFA

      Dear all,

At the moment we're waiting for Evans's appeal to go through the courts. The unofficial line from the PFA, via the medium of Clarke Carlisle's twitter account, is that having a convicted felon on the honours list is "wrong on everyone's moral compass". Clarke Carlisle also pointed out that as a professional trade union, they have a duty to the player and to remove him from the list at this point could be read as an admission of guilt and thus they won't be doing so until the result of the appeal.

I have written an e-mail to Gordon Taylor asking him to make an official statement on this and been in touch with the offices of the PFA to put the request to Taylor myself. So far no joy! Over the next week we will be contacting the PFA at regular intervals to get a response from them.

Whilst this is going on, please keep the ball rolling and the petition growing - it would be great to get to 25,000 and we're so close!

Once again, thanks for your support.

      Dear all,

I have been in contact with the PFA today but have been unable to speak to Gordon Taylor. I have, however, been given an e-mail address for him and sent him the formal letter that we shall be posting later this week from the CEO of mumsnet, the director of the End Violence Against Women coalition and myself directly to him, asking him to respond as a matter of urgency. Now we just wait to see what happens...

Thanks again for your continued support in getting the petition out there and circulating - please keep it up!

    6. Time to get in contact with the PFA and ask for action

Thanks for all the support and let's keep the campaign growing! We've had plenty of media coverage and the more people that hear about it, the more signatures we get! Please don't stop tweeting, posting, e-mailing and getting the word out to as many people as we can. Hopefully this will show the PFA that their statement about not wanting to draw attention to the issue was misguided and wrong. We have noticed and we do want him removed. I will be phoning the PFA this evening and asking them to remove Evans from the list in the next 24 hours

Rape is a disgusting crime, it takes away everything and changes someone whole life. People that commit such horrendous crimes should not be placed in a position for anyone to see them as a role model.

People are looking up to a convicted criminal, which is the worst thing ever. Young people should look up to innocent people, not guilty villains.

It is morally wrong for a convicted rapist to be honoured like this.

This is happening everywhere, if you haven't already done so please look up the Harvard petition against rape.

Its not ok, it never will be ok and by calling it non consensual sex doesn't change the fact that its still RAPE! People responsible for appalling acts like this need to be dealt with accordingly NOT PRAISED!! Wake the hell up PFA and imagine what if it was your daughter it happened too...still want to name him player of the year? Didn't think so!

THIS IS A REAL DISGRACE FOR THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION...THEY SHOULD BE A SHAME OF THEMSEVES. IT IS TIME TO PASS LAW TO DO THIS IF ASSOCIATIONS AND PEOPLE HAVE NO VALUES ANY MORE. WHAT A MODEL FOR OUR CHILDREN!!
