Prime Minister of India: Stop the establishment of National Investment Board

    1. Petition by

      Environment Support Group

The proposal to establish the National Investment Board is patently undemocratic, anti-federal, counter-intuitive and an extremely dangerous proposal and militates against the national interest, compromises good governance, and imperils our cherished constitutional legacy.

Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan has written to the Prime Minister, strongly objecting to Finance Minister P Chidambaram's next reform-oriented move - setting up a national investment board or NIB, a three-minister panel that can fast-track mega infrastucture projects if ministries fail to give clearances in stipulated time.

Decision making in India are still in nascent process wherein a single executive structural change can take years to get corrected. Also this is continuing the process of neo-liberalism in India which appeals both existing UPA and NDA.. so it will hardly be corrected once this change happens.

What is needed is a single window process which will coordinate the movement of any investment proposal through various governmental agencies and act as a centralized agency for avoiding delays in processing, clarifications and overall delay due to corruption and red tapism. A board which ignores all the necessary clearances and bull doze the required processes because of failure of inter-governmental coordination is no answer and extremely dangerous.

This is another of Manmohan's and Chidambaram's ploy to gift away our forests and wildlife for their 'holy' agenda of development. The amount of environment and wildlife destruction that the present government has done in last 8 years is by far the greatest among all previous goverments. They are diseased people for whom a polluting coal mine is more pleasing to their eyes than a lush green forest with abundant flora and fauna. Our forests and wildlife are in great distress. Act now to save them or say good bye to them and eventually to ourselves in next 5-10 years.
