RHINOS HAVE BEEN WALKING THIS EARTH  FOR OVER 10 MILLION YEARS, BUT THAT CAN COME TO AN END IN LESS THAN 10 YEARS IF WE IGNORE THE FACTS.

They are of no threat to other animals as their diet consist of plants, yet humans have become their worst enemy.    If we go back to 2000, only 7 rhinos were poached, but every year since then, the staggering number of poached rhinos have increased, up to 668 in 2012.  This year, the stats are expected to drastically exceed that number.

They are being killed because the Chinese, Vietnamese and others believe the horn has medicinal properties, such as a cure for cancer, fever,  and if you can believe this....sexual malfunctions and even hangovers.  It has been proven time and time again that this belief is only a myth.  It is not helpful for human consumption at all as the horn is nothing more than keratin, the same substance found in our hair and finger/toe nails.

IT IS FEARED THAT IN 10 YEARS OR LESS! THE RHINOS OF SOUTH AFRICA WILL BE EXTINCT.  ONCE THEY ARE GONE, THEY ARE GONE FOREVER!

South Africa relies heavily on tourism as their commerce and without their Big Five, their economy will suffer drastically.  The Big Five consist of rhinos, African elephants, Cape buffalo, lion and leopard.  The elephants are being killed and their head completely sawed off for the tusk which is carved into trickets and sold to the public in China.  The tiger is killed for basically every part of it's body and sold in China, Asia and Vietnam.  As already stated, the rhino is killed for the horn that is then ground up and sold illegally in the black market in Asia and primarily Vietnam and China.

There is no reasonable explanation for the murder of these animals of SA.  As stewards of the planet, it is our responsibility to protect the wildlife so they can all be enjoyed for generations to come.   Someone once said "To ignore the facts, doesn't change the facts" and we can no longer ignore these facts.

With the funds from the USA, world leaders, royalty, and celebrities, one must wonder why the president of SA has not done more himself.  By deploying more soldiers to the parks, and keeping them there until this stops, it is believed that the rhinos can be saved from extinction.   In Kruger National Park alone, there have been 163 rhinos out of the 227 murdered this year thus far and the number is anticipated to reach over 1000 by the years end.  It is my opinion that the survival of these creatures lies in the hands of President Zuma who has the power to not only deploy more soldiers, but to declare a shoot-to-kill policy, enforce a no bail policy, to force the courts to bring these criminals to trial in a much speedier time frame, and to enforce tougher long term sentences.  He could also assist in the funding of security and equipment necessary for the privately owned reserves as the rhinos there have also been targeted.  Fence need to be replaced  that have been torn down around the perimeters and especially along the Mozambique border, which happens to be home to the most of the poachers.

Please help and become a "RHINO WARRIOR"  by becoming involved in this his horrific battle by signing this petition.  Spread the word through FB and everyone else you know.  Thousands  of signatures are needed to get the attention of South Africa's president. This is a global concern and people from all over the world can stand united and be the voice for these helpless creatures.  We need to let him know that the world is watching his actions and that he can do the right thing and turn this problem around.

Please President Zuma, in the name of  "Themba" who died at the greed of poachers, and his mate "Thandi" who survived, now without horns, please help put an end to this masacre.  Stop the criminals who have no respect for life, and stop them from decimating the icons of South Afica.

We just met our goal of 10,000 signatures and I want to thank everyone who has signed the petition. Please continue to share and tweet asking for everyone's help. It will still take more signatures to get this on President Zuma's desk and I'm sure that we can do it if we continue to try. Also, there are over 115 cities around the world who are marching on October 4th to raise awareness of the poaching of rhinos and elephants. We have mailed a Memorandum of Demand to 20 Ambassadors of the offending countries or to what is referred to as the "Gang of 19", demanding action and changes in policy. It seems like a slow process, but we must do all we can to speak for the animals who cannot speak for or defend themselves. Please go to Global March 4 Elephants and Rhinos website and find the nearest city and plan to march on October 4th. #nomorepoaching.

More than ever, people are taking action to fight for the rhinos, but still, many African leaders have remained quite. Through out Africa on Sept 28, The Rhino Run will be held, and already in the US, another city will hold a Rhino Run at the exact same time, and guess where it is? My neighbors...Gulfport MS. Lisa McCombs, you rock! Watch more cities do the same. Also, on October 4, over 114 cities around the world will be having the Global March 4 Elephants and Rhinos. I'm hosting one in New Orleans, so please mark your calendar if your in the area. Or register on line to see if there is one near you. www.march4elephantsandrhinos. Please share this petition by sharing on FB or by tweeting, and ask your friends to help. The eles and rhinos need us now.

On 4 October 2013, there will be scheduled marches around the globe, with several in the US. Most are for the elephants who are also being poached, 1 every 15 minutes, but some marches are including the rhino activist as well. I will be either in Houston Texas, or Jacksonville Florida. So if any of you are planning to be there, please introduce yourself to me. I would love to meet all the rhino warriors out there. God bless and watch over the rhinos, and God bless all of you. Please remember to share my petition again. Thank you.

It was reported today that there are now 514 rhinos killed and I keep asking, "what for"? These are helpless animals being murdered while grazing and sometimes, just napping...completely caught off guard. Many are females who are close to birthing a calf. They are sometimes wrecklessly and without any skill at all, hacked on so badly, that even their eyes are missing and the rhino is left in an agonizing pain, suffering and still breathing. PLEASE, PLEASE....SHARE THIS PETITION WITH YOUR FRIENDS, SO WE CAN GET IT INTO THE HANDS OF PRESIDENT ZUMA. LET'S SHAME HIM WITH OUR DEMANDS TO TAKE ACTION AND SAVE THE RHINOS BEFORE THEY ARE ALL GONE?

    13. 408 rhinos killed as of 6/12/13.

Of the 408 rhinos killed, 265 were from the Kruger National Park, well over half of all murders. This tells me that there is very little protection. Further, of the 121 total arrest, there have been 56 arrest made in Kruger. As a foot note, often times there is a small bail which means the poacher can walk...and you guessed it, he is then free to poach again. Something must be done soon to protect the rhinos, and to punish the men responsible for these killings. Please encourage your friends to sign this petition so that we can get it into the hands of President Zuma. Also, thanks to everyone who has supported this petition. Actions do speak louder than words.

As of 17 May, the number of poached rhinos have grown to 327. 7 of those were already dehorned, proving that dehorning doesn't work, as the poachers still kill for the stub. It has also been reported that neighboring Mozambique no longer have any black rhinos and possibly only 1 white rhino left. This followed by reports that the rhino population in Limpopo is completely wiped out. Most often, the poachers enter Kruger Park from Mozambique as the fence there was taken down a few years ago. Please SPREAD THE WORD AMONST YOUR FRIENDS AND ASK THEM TO SIGN THIS PETITION? THE SOONER OUR GOAL IS REACHED! THE SOONER THIS PETITION WILL REAC PRESIDENT ZUMA. We need lots of support. A rhino hug and a much felt thank you to everyone who has supported this petition so far. Patty

    17. "THE PRAYER"...a song I have dedicated to the rhinos.

This is sad news. Just recently, the remaining 15 Mozambique rhinos in Limpopo were killed and slaughtered for their horns, for no reason, except to cure someones hangover, or to enhance a man's libido. It is for this reason, we must pass the word on to others to sigh this petition. President Zuma may find this issue trivial now, but when he realizes that people from all over the world are demanded for this to stop, perhaps he will act. The other day, I posted a song dedicated to the rhinos and all other animals who are being slaughtered for greed or just ignorance. It's called "The Prayer". It goes like this....
I pray you'll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
      In times we don't know
Let this be our prayer when we lose our way
      Lead us to a place
      Guide us with you grace
To a place where we'll all be safe.

Please remember all the animals in your prayers and when talking to others. I want to thank everyone who is helping so far. Many hugs!!

Please ask all your friends to get involved and become a rhino warrior by signing this petition. It hurts to see another rhino murdered...for nothing. We can put an end to this, but it takes a lot of us to do this. Strength comes in numbers so let's show the South African leaders that we mean business when we say "THIS HAS TO STOP".

Again, a big thank you to everyone who truly cares about the rhinos. We can make a difference. Please continue to share this with everyone you know and ask for their help by signing this petition. It will literally take thousands of signatures and we have a long way to go. The sooner we get enough support, the sooner this can be presented to President Zuma. He has 2 choices; to either send thousands of troops to help, or to refuse. If he does the latter, then he will have a lot of explaining to do to his people and the world. Lets let him know that we won't stand for any more of his wanton attitude.

I am so worried for the world's ecosystems if we allow these great iconic species to become extinct - let alone the suffering and torment for the individual animals. They are far more valuable to South Africa alive than dead. Please take the lead in protecting them.
