This is one of the most accessible old-growth oak forests (15 acres) on the East Coast. It is threatened by plans to cut 1/3 of it and install an indoor football practice facility. There are alternative places for the football practice facility on the spacious land-grant VA TECH campus.

Dr. Jeff Kirwan will share his slides and insights about the trees in Stadium
Woods. Ms. Caitlin Edenfield, of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies,
will discuss her recent installation Finding Foundations and the impact that the
proposed practice facility would have on this complex old growth forest. Stadium
Woods is a project in the Sustainable Nature-Based Enterprise (Green Business)

This 300+ year old growth forest beside

Lane Stadium is very rare and, without doubt,

should be preserved. VT has much other

      land for athletics, etc.

I think it's great you have this petition, but you may also want to direct people to: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/vtstadiumwoods/ as they do have over 4,500 signatures on that one. May help to join efforts.

It would be great for Tech's image to preserve this woodland! There are other reasonable options for a practice facility, but no other options for this natural resource. Don't give VT football a bad name by putting them in opposition to nature!

Why not choose an already disturbed area for the new football facility? Why destroy part of a special and rare type of forest to do so?
