Voluntarily recognize the Coalition of Graduate Employees

    1. Petition by

      CGE 6069

Approximately 40% of graduate employees at Oregon State University are not currently covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the university and the Coalition of Graduate Employees (CGE). This means they are not guaranteed the same benefits as other graduate employees, nor do they have the same rights as workers. This year 64% of them signed authorization cards saying they wished to be represented by CGE. The simplest way to acknowledge the will of the democratic majority is for OSU President Ed Ray to voluntarily recognize their choice for CGE to be their legal representative. Unfortunately President Ray has so far declined to recognize CGE as the union for all graduate employees and has refused even to meet with CGE on the issue.

Ed Ray, President, Oregon State University
I value the work that graduate researchers and teachers do for Oregon State University. I urge you to respect the decision made by a decisive majority of graduate employees by voluntarily recognizing the Coalition of Graduate Employees Local 6069, AFT as the bargaining representative of ALL graduate employees at OSU.

Because the majority has already let their decision be known. Please do not waste time and money trying to deny this group their legal rights to representation.

I attended the U of O in 1968-69 and still have a strong affinity and actively advocate for U of O. I'm totally amazed that, in this day and age, you would fight any attempt by any group of workers to unionize. Especially at a University the mindset should be to make the world a better place for studentsas well as staff.

Simple.- Everyone should have the right to be represented by a labor union of their choice.

I would like to encourage the president to do the right thing sooner than later and graciously rather than being forced into it.
