President Obama: We Are BEYOND CRANKY!

    1. Petition by

      US Women Connect

Angry that President Obama/Sec. of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius overruled the FDA’s evidence based decision to allow over-the-counter sales of Plan B One Step emergency contraception without an age restriction? Are you getting beyond cranky about the administration’s pattern of throwing women’s fundamental rights and health under the bus the minute there is objection?

Then join US Women Connect in telling him so—and let’s take back hope by supporting an agenda that’s fair to women.

We are Beyond Cranky that Sebelius’ ruling means emergency contraception will remain behind the pharmacist’s counter for women of all ages, creating a barrier that will prevent many teens from using it to prevent unintended pregnancy. To be clear, the Obama administration has disregarded scientific evidence and thrown the women who elected him under the bus to placate an anti-choice constituency that wants nothing more than to see him out of office.

The Food and Drug Administration, which is run by a doctor whose job it is to determine if drugs are safe, said unanimously that Plan B is safe for women of all reproductive ages and should sit on the drugstore counter right next to the condoms. But Obama’s political appointee said she doesn’t think young women should be able to easily get a safe, effective drug to prevent pregnancy. And Obama said he backed her up because that’s what he thinks a “father with two daughters” should do: force his girls to risk unwanted pregnancy rather than take a pill deemed safe by his own scientists.

It's time to Occupy Ourselves. To say this isn't ok. For young women especially to say, "You're playing with our future and we're not going to take it. Do not take our support for granted."

Reproductive freedom. The supposedly pro-choice Obama administration has proven ready and willing to deprive women of that right over and over again.

Hiding Plan B would be bad enough alone. But this is far from the first betrayal.

Before he even took office, President Obama hired the viciously anti-choice fundamentalist preacher Rick Warren to bless his administration. Since then, he snatched family planning funding out of the first stimulus package the moment a hint of controversy was raised, went back on his promise to prioritize the Freedom of Choice Act that would guarantee reproductive rights, expanded abortion coverage restrictions even beyond those in the Stupak and Nelson amendments to health reform legislation, continued funding of abstinence only sex education here in and global AIDS policies, and much more. And now, the “pro-choice president” is hiding emergency contraception behind the pharmacy wall.

Thomas Jefferson said it best in the Declaration of Independence:
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

With respect for President Obama and the office he holds, it’s time to take back hope for our futures. It’s time for women to show we are beyond cranky. It’s time to hold President Obama accountable for his actions that deserve to be challenged.

SIGN THIS PETITION TO DECLARE YOUR INDEPENDENCE AND TELL BARACK OBAMA: Women elected you and we demand that you stop giving our rights away.

All women should be in control of their own bodies and reproductive health - not the government.

I believe the Democratic Party had adopted this attitude towards women voters: "We don't need to fight for you. You'll vote for us, because we're all you've got." I refuse to have my vote held hostage. If you don't FIGHT for choice, you're not a Democrat. I remember voting for Obama because I wanted to; I couldn't wait. But now, "He's less horrific than other candidates" is not a compelling reason for me to vote Obama in 2012.

I am a Republican, but increasingly outraged at the intransigence of the GOP on this issue. The "equal protection of the laws" does not apply to the unborn -- it never has, and should not.
