President Barack Obama

Stop the attacks on peaceful demonstrators

    1. Petition by

      Thomas Ballock

      Morgantown, WV

Throughout the country, police departments, acting on the order of local and state governmental officials, are engaging in brutality against peaceful citizens exercising their Constitutional rights to peaceably assemble and to freely express themselves. Police departments, which have been militarized by the federal government are engaging in blatant violation of the First Amendment to The Constitution of the United States. Peaceful citizens are being arrested in large numbers while exercising rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. Non-violent protesters are being brutalized. Citizens are being forcibly evicted from public spaces. Personal property is being destroyed and discarded.

We beseech you and the Justice Department adhere to your sworn oath to defend The Constitution by undertaking action to stop the unconstitutional actions being conducted against peaceful American citizens exercising their Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.

Mr. President, our country needs Teddy. FDR sent troops to protect striking union members. I'm sure you know JFK's quote about what happens if peaceful demonstration is made impossible. Please, be the man we elected.

I think it's absolutely appalling to see the abuse that the protesters are taking. They are peaceful protesters, there is no excuse for the way they have been treated.

Freedom of speech, assembly, and association is under attack due to this war against peaceful protest intent to intensify the fear that has the majority of Americans afraid to stand up and truly have their voices heard. FREEDOM is under attack.

As the President, you swore an oath swearing to protect the Constitution. You are obliged to do so, or America will have to find someone who can. The Bill of Rights is as Constitutional as it gets. Defend it.
