Petition to request the removal of the "Support Global Food Security" petition (a) from change.org

    2. Petition by

Whereas:

1. According to this petition, "Support Global Food Security", Obama said programs like these "are not charity." (a)
He is right. What he is not telling us is that some of these programs are really HANDOUTS to Big Agro Biz.
Neither does this petition, "Support Global Food Security" (a), make this clear to us.

2.
Without doing some research, people cannot know from the wording on this petition (a)
that they are signing that they agree
--- that it is OK for our gov (which means taxpayers) to fund GMO propagation in Africa and South Asia and
--- that it is OK to fund tech methods such as "plant protection products"  (aka pesticides and a myriad of other poisonous, heavy-carbon-footprint manufactured chemicals)  -- DemocracyNow
which reputable scientists and farmers with long experience can SHOW do not give higher yields,
in fact quite the opposite.
GMOs are not sustainable food production methods and they are outrageously EXPENSIVE.
GMOs contaminate real DNA, have already caused catastrophic crop failures and could cause the irreversible extinction of species of plants they cross-pollinate.
The wind, birds and insects carry live pollen across the whole planet.
Monocultures are risky (at best!) esp in times of unpredictable weather due to Climate Disruption.

3. Further, people do not know from this "Support Global Food Security" petition (a) that this bill, the Global Food Security Act of 2009, S.384 (b) gives Monsanto et al a mandate to control food production in Africa and South Asia.

Bill to Mandate GMO Research for Africa/S. Asia Passes Unanimously  http://www.lavidalocavore.org/showDiary.do?diaryId=1338

It is further impossible to tell if GMO propagation corporations intend to experiment further with what used to be called "TERMINATOR" seeds and the vague wording of this bill leaves a loophole to allow them to do so without oversight.

"Since 2000, when a de facto moratorium against Terminator technology was agreed at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity [CBD], these companies have re-branded Terminator as a 'biosafety' tool."
-- Silvia Ribeiro of ETC Group.

Part 2: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1482107411279204352&hl=en

"Terminator technology is designed to make “suicide seeds,” genetically engineered to be sterile in the second generation. The technology has been widely rejected around the world by farmers’ movements, governments, research institutions and UN agencies as dangerous, immoral and undesirable".
-- from the ETC alert: Posted By Devinder Sharma to Ground Reality at 4/18/2009 07:24:00 AM

4.
The people of these under-developed nations have not agreed to have Monsanto and the like take over their food production.
This means that we in the USA have NO RIGHT to enact legislation (b) that affects their freedom of choice and their ultimate survival potential.

5. This bill (b) will not help alleviate hunger in the world, it will only add extra expenses for already overburdened tax payers, funds that will end up in corporate pockets rather than actually helping the needy (or anyone else for that matter).
Meanwhile, more people than ever will starve and die because we ALL need
-- economical, eco-friendly ORGANIC farming practices,
-- freedom to provide for ourselves without corporate or gov interference-intimidation,
--a broad gene pool of real DNA in our seeds and
-- the right to save our seeds as we choose.

6.
Corporations only care about their profits, in this case profits from American tax payers who will foot the bill without  even knowing where their money is going.
This constitutes taxation without proper representation.

7. Globular Corporations have received enough "Free Lunch" from the whole world already and they have shown us that they are not capable of giving back to the base upon which they depend for their sociopathic profits.
It is time to put an end to unaccountable corporate rule before it is too late to save ourselves and all life on earth.

Therefore,

8. We the undersigned support TRUE Global Food Security and Food Freedom thru Organic, Localized, LowCarbonFootprint Food Production-Distribution practices.

9. We do not support the Lugar-Casey bill S. 384, the Global Food Security Act of 2009 (b), as it currently stands with its "monsanto amendment" and vague wording.

10. We the Undersigned respectfully request that this "Support Global Food Security" petition (a) be removed from change.org  a.s.a.p.

11. We the undersigned also respectfully request that this petition in support of the Lugar-Casey Global Food Security Act of 2009, S.384 (b), now under the name of "Tell Congress to Stand Against Global Hunger", (c) be removed a.s.a.p. as well and not merely renamed AND/OR reworded.

Thank you Ani! Just watched the fim you have linked here. I had watched a lecture given by Vandana Shiva before. What an amazing human being and what a strong grass roots movement in India. We need one here in America that isn't marginalized.

      ooops ... Correction ...

I should have said below that we can no longer go directly to the CARE petition from the links above (instead of saying we can no longer go directly to the BILL ... )

If Manuela's link to go to the bill itself does not work, you can find it by googling the name of the bill.
