For the past few months, Burma, has been going through a series of sectarian violence. Hundreds of houses are burnt and uncountable number of families killed. Over 100,000 families have been forcibly displaced and are in dire need of food, shelter and medical care. Many individuals have tried to escape the country by swimming to the neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Thailand who sent them back to the sea. Families have sailed to seek refuge in the bordering countries but have been refused shelter. In this struggle to migrate many have drowned or have died.

The government as well as the military have failed to take control of the situation. " Government Could Have Stopped This," a report based on 57 interviews of the affected individuals, states that the authorities failed to take adequate measures to ease the increasing tension and the violent outbreaks of sectarian violence. In the report a Rohingya man stated, "[An Arakan Mob] started torching the houses. When people tried to put out the fires, the paramilitary shot at us. And the group beat people with big sticks." Another man stated, "I was just a few feet away. I saw them shoot at least six people- 1 woman, 2 children and 3 men. The police took their bodies away."

Not only the government of Burma has failed to ease the tension and control the violent outbreak, it has also restricted any kind of Humanitarian aid to the affected families. Brad Adams, executive director of Human Rights Watch's Asia Division, said, "Burmese security forces failed to protect the Arakan and Rohingya from each other and then unleashed a campaign of violence and mass roundups against the Rohingya. The government claims it is committed to ending ethnic strife and abuse, but recent events in Arakan State demonstrate that state-sponsored persecution and discrimination persist."

Mr. Adams further said, "The Burmese authorities should immediately release details of detained Rohingya, allow access to family members and humanitarian agencies, and release anyone not charged with crime recognized under international law in which there is credible evidence. This is a test case of the government's stated commitment to reform and protecting basic rights."

This petition is directed to Mr. Ban Ki Moon, United Nations Secretary-General. The petition is to request the United Nations to take control and ease the conflict. Violence only covers up the real problem and makes it ten times worse. Please join me in this petition requesting United Nations to protect and shelter the Burmese families, especially those who have been forcibly displaced, now homeless and in dire need of food, shelter and medical aid.

Thank you and best regards.
