Support the Indiana Deaf Education Coalition Oppose HB1367 and VOTE NO...

This bill is NOT about parent Choice of options and services when it comes to Outreach services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children.  It is about gutting one state agency that is an expert in Deaf Education and Early Intervention, the Indiana School for the Deaf Outreach, to replace it with an unknown, unplanned, and unfunded agency under the SOLE direction of the Office of Management and Budget with no accountability to anyone.  This bill was based upon NO official OMB report and NO accurate fiscal analysis.  This bill aims to improve services by reinventing the wheel instead of enhancing services that are already provided through ISD's Outreach.

    1. Still working!!!

Despite the fact that this bill passed, we are continuing to work on it. We have formed a new organization, Deaf Coalition of Indiana that will be convening its first annual meeting on December 8, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN. If you are interested in attending, let me know at deafcoalitionindiana@gmail.com . We will send additional updates. The plan has been proposed for what the new Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education will look like http://www.in.gov/omb/2578.htm Take a look. We oppose:
*the placement under the department of health - this ensures institutional bias and the immediate biasing of all parents
*the huge increase in spending as well as the taking away of significantly more funds than ISD currently spends on outreach from the school
*the gutting of the aspect that was most important, the tracking of progress of every D/HH student is now strictly voluntary, ensuring that kids will still continue to fail and fall through the cracks.

From every corner of Indiana and the country, our voices are going to be heard!! Please, there is no time to rest, this can not wait until tomorrow, take a few moments to ensure that our Indiana Legislature does not make short-sighted mistakes that harm children. This bill is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It is supported by oppressive and biased organizations under the illusion of being "unbiased." Spread this to every one you know, you can sleep well tonight knowing you did everything in your power!

reason i oppose this HB1367. you has none respect the deaf cluture at all because if spanish language, why not u ( government or polictican ) remove their spanish language or any language in u.s.a.? also their spanish school you provide money their needs and u respect spanish school and not deaf school. it is not right, i am not saying i hate spanish or different language school and i am saying we have rights to decision what is the best for the u.s.a. culture as you feel.

I am signing this petition because I believe that Deaf infants and children have the basic human right to receive complete access to language and accessible education through ASL. As a proud child of Deaf parents and native ASL user, I am honored to have been born into a culture and community that embraces the beauty and passion of Deaf identity. End the oppression, and join the fight for access, human rights, and equality...
