Open Source the Presto Engine

When Opera announced the intention to follow Google to Webkit, and later, to Blink Engine, many people cried in social media about how we where closing to an IE-like time where standards are adopted only when the engine maker decided to support it, where the engine's bugs and flaws became de-facto standards and no one could do nothing to change it.

The only safe route to allow the web to remain free and grant new developers a chance to re-imagine the browser, allow Opera Software to focus on the experience, and keep the engine field open, is to allow everyone access to Presto, maybe allowing only non-commercial usage, and charging a fee to commercial usage.

Open Source the Presto Engine

Opera was once heads above the competition, and simply wasn't marketed on desktops by a large enough tech company (read, Microsoft, Apple, Google). It had a small market share, but the biggest in our hearts. Now the difference between Chrome and Opera is negligible, with Chrome being comfortably ahead in every category. User since pay-for-app days, Opera 7, lets bring back the Opera we all love. Most of us would even pay for it.

Opera was superior before transitioning to webkit. Also lessening the number of active rendering engines is potentially very bad for the web as a whole.

I love the presto engine and i dont want to see it go forever. I want someone to make a browser out of it,or maybe rework the old opera. Im using 12.17 right now,its 2000x faster than the new opera and its more stable, and not that much RAM consuming.
