Mandatory enforcement standardized government bullying policies in the UK

On change.org currently is a anti-bullying petition with the idea of mandatory enforcement of anti-bullying legislation in every school across the USA. I conducted some quantitative primary research within the UK, as I interviewed and received anonymous statements from bullying victims. This research showed that in the north west the changes in the types of bullying policies in high schools were the leading factor in not dealing with bullying effectively.

Bullying is not the same as disputes between friends, it is an unprovoked, sustained campaign of aggression. I also conducted a large amount of statistical data which showed 160,000 children in the UK stay home to avoid bullying. It is estimated that each year in the UK 5000 people take their life. The Samaritans estimate there is a suicide every 82 minutes. There are around 19,000 suicide attempts by children and teens in the UK, 1 in 6 of these being under the age of 11.

These statistics alone show that these changes are very valid to society, this petition could stop the ignorance of bullying by authority in schools. Bullying is also the leading factor of causing long term mental disorders such as depression, PTSD ,anorexia and other BDD sub types. A large number of young adults who are sectioned admit to being bullied in schools.

The BBC posted a shocking news article on 19th September 2009 which suggested that heads aren't being held accountable for the bullying in schools even though the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) claimed otherwise. One woman saw her son being attacked by 40 other pupils with temporary road signs. I believe that with enough support, we can make a change and at least reduce the amount of physical and verbal harassment in educational institutions within the UK.

I can not do this without your support, the US petition currently has 1,500 signatures. I know if we can achieve this amount of signatures, someone will listen. Speak out for the children, please give your support with a simple signature, no money involved, just a voice.
Thank you

Without your signatures and support, everything I am doing would seem insignificant and make little change. Thank you so much for all the support tackling this issue. :)

Yesterday, I went into a school and taught 3 classes about disability bullying and bullying in the world. I had a video set up for them and I gave them some worksheets, I went around helping with answers and gaining feedback from the students. The children gave me useful ideas for the school to take on board, they are big aims for the school but its best to start small. I also managed to speak to two women who used to work for bullybusters and advised me on anti-bullying organisations to contact in order to gain more support. One of the women also said that she would let me know if she saw any jobs such as the one I did on Friday. I feel lucky to have had this opportunity and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to speak to the children as it has been a learning curve and has taught me a lot.

I'm also extremely grateful for all the support people who sign the petition have given this cause and I hope that we can eventually make a difference.

It's fabulous because I have support from the school and external organisations. I have been told to plan a lesson and it is fabulous because they have told me to address disability bullying too! I'm nervous though. Best get printing off worksheets!

The meeting was in Holy Family High School. The school's head and officials seemed to support me in what I was doing, however in order to get action I am going to need to get more research and supporters together before I send it all to Ofsted.

A positive that has come out of the meeting is I asked the school about their current anti-bullying policy and asked about everything that they did to support LBGT teens. I found they have contacts with a psychiatrist to help students facing depression, many support posters around the school, an LBGT support room and a group to help them. As well as this they have a group of students that bullied children can go to, these children have been trained by anti-bullying agencies and I have been invited into the school to see what they do and help them progress. The schools claims to be "nowhere near perfect" but took my views into consideration and support our cause. I'm happy that we now have additional support.

I know it's inconvenient but please don't refrain from signing just because of this :)
