Occoneechee Council: Reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy

      Raleigh, NC

We, the Scouts and community members of Raleigh, NC urge the Occoneechee Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy.

Among service organizations, the Boy Scouts are increasingly isolating themselves with their discriminatory policy. Organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as the 4H Club all welcome gay kids as well as adult leaders.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out against the ban on gay Scouts and leaders and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!

This is awesome. I keep upping the bar with signature goals. Please keep them coming - spread the word to everyone you know. I will soon plan on delivering the petition to Occoneechee Council Leadership, along with appropriately formed communication, in order to start actuating this change. Let's continue the effort to ensure that all of us always treat all other things the way we want to be treated - the only way this planet will ever be at peace. Thank you for your support. Please spread the word as wide and far as you can.

I am pleasantly surprised with the amount of signers for this petition in this amount of time - Thank you for your support! As you might have guessed, I plan on making change within Scouting by appealing to my local council. I figure that if there are many of us who do this, we'll have many council's nationwide who become part of this movement to equality in Scouting, and eventually, discrimination and bigotry within Scouting will be something we look back on.
Thank you for your continued support. Please help spread the word - appeal to your email and Facebook contacts. Let's keep the momentum going!

While i appreciate the new, open admission policy for gay boys, the BSA needs to go the distance and embrace all - including leaders. These boys will at some point desire to become leaders, and it makes no sense for a ban on adults. Please reconsider. As an Eagle Scout and a father, please know I desire to put my son back in scouts, and wish for him to see all the glory that I did when I was young.

As an Eagle scout we were taught to respect everyone for their differences. That the differences in our preferences, religion, race.... should not make a difference, we should be judged on our character and morals. Rejecting people for being gay is wrong, and its wrong by the morals that scouts gave to me.

I'm an Eagle Scout and I'd like my son to be a part of scouting. However, it is important to me that I teach him to be accepting and tolerant of all people. Until the BSA changes its policies on admitting Gay scouts it is not an organization that I feel comfortable letting him join.

Everything that BSA stands for will erode if the new policy is passed. Sexual education will be a merit badge and God will become an optional word. If gays want to have scouting then the can become a member Baden-Powell Service. Thanks for listening
