Stop the building of a second casino in Sydney in Barangaroo.

    1. Petition by

      Jacob K. Glud

      Australia

This petition calls on the NSW government to halt the process by which a second casino will be built in Barangaroo as it is not in the general interest of the public of Sydney & New South Wales. One casino is enough for Sydney, and the assertion made by James Packer and Crown Ltd that another casino in Sydney that will become a landmark by which Sydney should become known for worldwide is not a view held by the general public.

"For anyone who can remember the 1990s crony capitalism saga behind James Packer finishing up in control of one of the world’s biggest casinos in the Melbourne CBD, developments this week in Sydney are deeply troubling. And just as concerning is the performance of the mainstream media which has turned into a Packer cheer squad as the NSW Parliament collapses in the face of a powerful rent-seeking casino developer." - Stephen Mayne

State bets on cash cow for whales

Illustration: Simon Letch It's a depressing notion that a glitzy, over-designed casino filled with Chinese whales champing to be fleeced, is the engine room of the city's tourism-led future. The lack of imagination is awe-inspiring. Harnessing economic growth to gambling is such a hackneyed, failure-ridden experiment that it's a wonder it's being seriously entertained in this city.

Critics slam approval process for Packer casino - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Updated October 26, 2012 14:26:47 Critics of James Packer's plan to build a second Sydney casino say the billionaire has had a free ride through the planning approvals process. The New South Wales Government and Opposition have both thrown their support behind the project, which would see a high-rollers' haven built at the northern end of the CBD - right on Sydney Harbour.

We don't need another Casino. It is an ugly building that is an eye sore for our harbour foreshore.

I believe that casinos increase the amount of misery in the world. This casino building is ugly, its use will alienate more of Barangaroo from the people of Sydney. It represents a nasty side of our society.
