The few times I can bring myself to face the danger I cycle round Harrogate. I cycled across Leeds to and from work for 6 years. That felt safer than riding around Harrogate.

I enjoy cycling with my Children and the provision of cycle routes make this a safe past time that will hopeful become a life style choice for my children

Having just moved from Sheffield to Harrogate, Harrogate is well behind the times - few cycle lanes, those which are in place are badly designed and maintained. It should be easy to cycle to Leeds/Bradford/Ripon from Harrogate however there are no safe routes - the A61/658 have no cycle lanes or alternative routes and the (more pleasant) back roads need resurfacing to be safe.

I regularly cycle in North Yorkshire, in Wharefdale and Nidderdale. There is apparently no joined-up thinking around the transport network in the county, particularly in relation to cycling. Harrogate is not a cycle friendly town and would have a much more pleasant feel to it if it were.
