Make sure environmental education is a priority!

Please complete the No Child Left Inside Act

Here's the text from the email:
Are America's children environmentally literate? Today's overscheduled kids are increasingly "plugged in" to electronic devices and media, while at the same time unplugged from the fundamental and formative experience of nature in their own neighborhood. Their senses--including, sadly, their sense of wonder--are bombarded, overwhelmed and ultimately diminished.

On top of this "nature deficit disorder," many schools are being forced to scale back or eliminate environmental education programs. Fewer and fewer students are able to take part in class activities that connect them with nature.

But a new bill in Congress has set out to change this!

Please take a minute and complete the No Child Left Inside Act

Under the iEARN 'Four Rivers One World' programme already undertaken by iEARN in USA, India, Bangladesh and Nepal, my whole family is involved in bringing the selected team of students from Bal Shiksan Mandir Scool to the river Mutha - regularly.

Whether in the US, in India or in all other nations, whether in response to a government legislation/act or otherwise - all parents and teachers MUST keep alive the practice of bringing our children/students near to Nature.

As an environmental educator stationed at a zoo, I'm thankful I get to be apart of this field everyday. It would be tremendous if Congress would pass legislation to have environmental ed formally added to the educational docket of American children, but it will be even more important to find the funding, the personnel, and the wild spaces we'll need to put any legislation in action.

Our children need to understand the real science behind our environment in order to make sound decisions about our world's future.

I direct the Long Island Nature Collaborative for Kids, a coalition of 170 organizations focused on the environment and early childhood education. We are hoping to become a national model for nature education for young children by creating outdoor learning classrooms in parks, libraries, beaches, schools, child care programs, camps, neighborhoods and backyards. For the children, we want them to have free play and good health with outdoor activities. For the environment, we know that children will not save what they don't love. Only good can come from this legislation.
