As part of a healthy, sustainable lifestyle the raising of backyard chickens for egg production is very important. Home raised chickens produce eggs that are more nutritious and flavorful than the store bought variety. Female chickens, hens, make little noise and present little to no health risk. The goal of this petition is to convince the Board of Health to change the current ordinance prohibitting chickens to allow residents to keep up to six hens in secure enclosures.

I would also like to see my town, Teaneck, allow chickens. I have wanted to raise them for years now. I have even thought of moving to a town that allows them.

because people should have a right to produce healthful foods for themselves, especially since x% of Americans go hungry everyday. chicken keepers are not cruel, keep healthy birds, clean pens, unlike puppy mills, which have excessive numbers of unhealthy dogs, sick offspring, filthy living conditions, etc puppy mills are NOT banned, but 3 chickens ARE? That makes no sense, and is unfair.

I agree with Danielle Loporto, in addition its the age where we asks our citizens to stand up and take of themselves. We ask them to be more reposnsible to home grown communities, to support ourselves, and to teach our children the values of the earth. Shame on a town who won't allow a family to take car of their health and sustainability in a beneficially opportunistic way.

Everyone should have the right to provide for themselves, perhaps with minor conditions if we are talking true urban areas. The government, of the people, for the people, should be stop turning their heads and closing their eyes to the harmful moneymaking endeavors damaging our earth and people. For far too long law makers have been making poor choices favoring BIG business despite or without knowledge of the adverse public health effects and eliminating individual rights & freedoms. The "system" needs to focus & correct the wrong doings of factory farm inhumane conditions and unhealthy food, Genetically Modified Organisms, wide spread use of chemicals, EMF and radiation damage, and begin to accurately informing the public by labeling their products - what is added or how our food is processed.
