City of Heroes has been around for years now (around seven), and the community is still strong as ever. On August 31st, Paragon Studios was given the order to cease all operations and start shutting down the game--effective immediately. There was no build up to this order, no press conferences, nothing. The rumor is that the game will be officially shut down November 30th, 2012.
The only ones that seem to want to have City of Heroes shut down is NCSoft themselves. The community isn't ready for this, and neither is the development team; who is getting shoved out into the cold. City of Heroes is not responsible for the loss in NCSoft profits--other games are.
This petition is to stop NCSoft from shutting down the game and let many of its players keep their favorite game going! The players--and developers--are not prepared to see this game go down.

Thanks so much for making this such a huge thing! I've been getting a lot of questions and offers of help; unfortunately the change.org site is giving me a bit of trouble, so I can't seem to respond for the time being. I'm working on getting that issue resolved!
I only discovered this game six months ago but the memories will last a lifetime. Playing with my IRL Friends and discovering SO many combinations of powers and being able to be anyone I want to be and do whatever I want. I could live in the game for hours just messing around.
It has become a part of my life and now it is gone. My very soul weeps with despair.
I loved this game and it was what I played after toontown. I heard of this game from a fellow player and have been on coh for most of it's life. We have formed relationships with people and worked with others as a result of this game. Shutting this down is cutting a piece of that link. This is the best mmo for charater creation and has alot of freedom. I remember the first time I flew in the Hollows when i was level 14 back in the day. There was nothing like it ever. It was breathtaking. It is so sad you are destroying something so creative.
This game has brought my family and friends years of fun. It is something that you can play again and again, make up great characters, role play and just have a blast. It's like social media, but more fun!

The Game gives me a chance to step away from reality for awhile and allow me to get away from the stress of the wold around me. Please keep it going for peple like me who need the release
I played since launch. It's not just a game. I've made so many real life friends during my time playing. Been to weddings. Celebrated births. Mourned friends. This is a community, and the best I've ever been a part of. Need to keep it going if we can.
City of Heroes had always been on my biggest games I needed to play. Since I was four years old, I wrote characters with my cousin, basing them off of several different sources. These characters grew into a full written universe that I was able to spread and share with friends, constantly expanding. CoH was my first experience to actually create these characters visually, write as them in real time with strangers. Not only that, I managed to meet tons of amazing people with their own characters in a massively fleshed-out universe. In addition to the amazing slew of choices in gameplay and costumes, I mostly enjoyed CoH's community. Tons of spirits enjoying the creation of interesting characters and tons of friendships nurtured over time. It was a grievous mistake for NCsoft to simply end this amazing experience. And I do NOT stand at their side. I stand across the battlefield, inspirations filled up, enhancements all green, ready to take on this new Arch-Villain.
It's the only MMO I'd buy a lifetime subscription for. it's the only one worth it.
Because this is still the best game.
This has to be one of the most best MMO's out there! My fiance' got a game world event going and proposed to me in front of everyone at NC Soft! Please lets try to keep this game from shutting its doors.
