September 2013

Victory

From Joey Knofczynski: After a long, tense week, NASCAR has made the right decision and has allowed Jeff Gordon to race for the 2013 Sprint Cup Championship. It is unfortunate that NASCAR was not able to disqualify Bowyer or Logano from the Chase, but at least they were able to understand how badly Jeff was cheated at Richmond. I hope NASCAR has learned that the Chase format only breeds cheating and lying and backroom deals that make the sport more corrupt. The Chase has only caused the sport to lose its integrity and its fans; it brings out the worst in everyone. Simply put, NASCAR has been stained. I don't want to see my favorite sport fall like this, and I know other fans feel the same way. NASCAR might have been built on cheating to get ahead (the first racers were moonshiners after all), but times have changed. Why would anyone watch a race that's fixed by crooked drivers and owners? Other sports simply ban players that lose on purpose for their own benefit (Black Sox, Pete Rose). When a team attempts to not fix just one race, but the playoffs and the entire season, something needs to be done. NASCAR missed a big opportunity this week to send a message. In the end, fans of a fair NASCAR are very glad that Jeff Gordon is racing for the championship this year. We are glad that NASCAR saw the light and made the smart and just decision. We hope this never happens again.

Jeff Gordon has been screwed out of a Chase spot through the work of cheaters. Clint Bowyer and Joey Logano deserve to lose their chance at a championship for their actions at Richmond on Saturday, September 7. Bowyer should be penalized for purposely causing a caution and fixing the race. Logano should be penalized for improper communications used to again, fix the race. NASCAR needs to put an end to drivers who play by their own rules. As of right now, Bowyer is only 15 points behind first going into this week's race and Logano is only 12 points behind; they have not been punished at all even though they blatantly cheated. We watch NASCAR expecting fair and competitive races, and that clearly did not happen at Richmond. While the fans appreciate the fact that NASCAR did something positive and penalized Michael Waltrip Racing as a whole, NASCAR has not done nearly enough. Jeff Gordon was affected equally by the cheating of MWR and Penske Racing, and he deserves to take a spot in the Chase over Bowyer and Logano. There is no place for cheaters in the Chase or NASCAR. Period.

To:
Mike Helton, President of NASCAR
Brian France, CEO of NASCAR
Disqualify Clint Bowyer and Joey Logano from the Chase. Cheating will not be accepted by fans; Bowyer and Logano do not deserve to race for the Championship this year. Penalize Bowyer for purposely causing a caution and penalize Logano for improper communications.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

    1. Message from Jeff Gordon

No joke. This is real. Jeff Gordon has something to say about this petition. Even though it's addressed to me, it's truly for everyone that signed and shared this petition. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

      Dear Joey,

Following the Richmond race, there was disappointment felt by me, the No. 24 team, Hendrick Motorsports, No. 24 fans and NASCAR fans alike with the circumstances that occurred at the end of that race, but the support of racing community and 24 fans did not go unnoticed.

We truly believe we earned a spot in this year's Chase. I thank you and everyone who voiced their support and belief in our team.

      Jeff Gordon

That's it folks! Jeff's in the Chase. He'll be racing for his fifth championship this year! Thanks again to everyone who signed. Jeff Gordon fans are the best! I'm still somewhat in shock of how successful this petition ended up being. It's on the home page of this site! Just phenomenal.

I'd like to say something quick about starting this petition. First of all, I'm just a college student in South Dakota. I'm also a massive Jeff Gordon fan as you can probably tell. Saturday night, I went to bed angry and depressed. I couldn't sleep. I still couldn't grasp the fact that Jeff didn't make the Chase. I only found out the next morning why he didn't make it: Michael Waltrip Racing cheated. I wasn't going to sit back at watch this play out. I have never made a petition besides this one, but I gave it shot. It turns out this is the one of the best things I've ever done. Since when can you say you helped your hero get a shot at winning a championship? Wonder what Jeff has to say about this.

    3. Backlash...

      Joey Knofczynski
      Petition Organizer

It's too bad NASCAR had to get Jeff in the Chase the way they did. We wanted them to penalize Bowyer or Logano, but no, couldn't do that. Glad Jeff's in, but NASCAR could have handled this a lot better. The Hendrick and Gordon haters are having a hissy fit because they think NASCAR was paid off. Let them steam. They have a right to be angry. While Jeff deserves his spot, how did NASCAR have the power to add a 13th driver to the Chase? It's all NASCAR's fault. They could've done something earlier instead of call Jeff part of a "ripple effect." Oh well. Not our problem right now!

Also, some haters are blaming the petition for getting Jeff in. I'd like to thank those haters because they make me even happier about this effort. I think some of those haters are sad they didn't think of it first. Now all they can do is cry and whine. :)

Still can't believe Jeff is in. I can now look forward to Friday the 13th every few months. The one thing I'm still disappointed about is that NASCAR only put Penske Racing on probation. No penalty for Logano. Can't believe they didn't find any conclusive evidence. Were they looking for a written contract between Penske and Front Row? This isn't the time to worry about that though. It's a time for celebration! JEFF'S IN!!!

The news about a 13 car Chase is making its rounds. We all know who that 13th car would be. :) Hopefully NASCAR can still dump Logano from the Chase; Bowyer too if possible. #neverquit

A source says that there is still some hope that NASCAR is considering replacing Logano with Jeff in the Chase. STILL A CHANCE! Stay tuned!

Developing story: Logano out, Gordon in?

An unnamed source at Chicagoland Speedway has told Motorsport.com that there may be another shift in the Chase standings before cars hit the track for qualifying. Media outlets have been informing their personnel on site to keep an eye on Jeff Gordon, as the situation unfolds.

    8. Logano update...

      Joey Knofczynski
      Petition Organizer

NASCAR met with both Front Row and Penske about the radio communications. The story makes it sound like NASCAR will comment about this tonight. They'll have to do it eventually. One more note. NASCAR hasn't decided yet if they'll add a 13th car to the Chase. How about that news? That's actually a possibility now? Interesting stuff.

NASCAR officials meet with team reps

JOLIET, Ill. NASCAR officials met with Front Row Motorsports crew chief Frank Kerr and spotter David Keith at Chicagoland Speedway on Friday morning to discuss Saturday's incidents at Richmond International Raceway. A separate meeting was held with Penske Racing vice president Bud Denker, competition director Travis Geisler, vice president of operations Michael Nelson, crew chief Todd Gordon and spotter Tab Boyd.

    9. Really quick...

      Joey Knofczynski
      Petition Organizer

Found a couple of good points in this article. First off, Helton has declined to comment about Logano as the investigation continues. Until NASCAR comments, we should believe that there's a chance Logano could be penalized. Maybe even Bowyer. Then again, maybe I'm too optimistic. I do that a lot when Jeff's involved. Also, Jeff's saying the audio is conclusive as to what happened. He's a smart cookie. He's waiting for a final decision too. Today could be the day... unless NASCAR wants to change the Chase after the first race. With NASCAR, anything's possible.

Joey Logano not concerned about Chase allegations, says he deserves playoff spot

CHICAGO - Joey Logano walked around during Chase for the Sprint Cup media day Thursday with a smile on his face. He was experiencing Chase media day for the first time. And he feels confident that he will continue to experience the Chase through the next 10 weeks.

    10. This is sad...

      Joey Knofczynski
      Petition Organizer

Instead of addressing the Logano issue like NASCAR should be doing, they're trying to convince fans that Brian France is a good guy. Is this a joke? What a weird time to try to save face. Better idea: penalize Bowyer and Logano and NASCAR wouldn't have to save face like this. By the way, here are no comments for this article. NASCAR knows the fans are angry. Why are they making it worse?

Big moments define France's 10-year tenure

NASCAR has always delivered on that brand of high excitement. As NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France marks the 10th year of his tenure this week, technological innovation, a willingness to evolve and a keen business sense also have defined a new era of leadership during a tenuous time of economic uncertainty and challenge.

Happy Friday the 13th. If all goes well, this should be an unlucky day for a couple of cheaters. This morning, I'd like to thank some of the Facebook groups that helped circulate this petition in the beginning, including Gordon Nation 24 (https://www.facebook.com/GordonNation24), Fans of Jeff Gordon (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fans-of-Jeff-Gordon/364458543624808), 24 Designs (https://www.facebook.com/24Designs), Jeff Gordon fans (https://www.facebook.com/Jeffgordonfans24), and Jeff Gordon true fans (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jeff-Gordons-true-fans/523999874309068). Drivers like Bowyer and Logano barely have one fan page each, and this petition almost has more signatures than they have fans.

Wow. This is going great! Haven't seen any affect on NASCAR yet, but they still have tomorrow to make a decision. Still no comment on Logano. I can't see them just pretending the Logano cheating never happened. Wait, yes I can. NASCAR is that disappointing now.

I had an interesting dream last night where Jeff definitely gets into the Chase because Logano was penalized big time. Somehow, Truex got back in too. Bowyer must have been kicked out. Maybe my dream wasn't very realistic, but it could have been a premonition. It sucks that right now the idea that Jeff gets in the Chase is only a dream. What is NASCAR thinking at this point? Make this dream a reality!

NASCAR still hasn't done anything about Logano except saying that they hadn't found enough evidence to take action. Yet another opportunity to make things right goes down the drain for NASCAR. There's still a couple of days left. We'll see if the people heading NASCAR finally find their morality somewhere.

    20. Logano cheated...

I've been a strong long time (since 1992) NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan when I saw him win live in Atlanta. To see any other drivers such as Bowyer and Logano do what they did CHEAT Jeff Gordon rightfully out of his spot in the 2013 Chase is WRONG!
