Myer CEO Bernie Brookes’ comments that a levy to fund the National Disability Insurance Scheme is "not good for our customers" and "is something that would have been spent with us" are incredibly disappointing.

They demonstrate a lack of understanding of Australians with disability, half of whom live below the poverty line - and a lack of understanding of how Australians with disability can positively contribute to our community with appropriate support from an NDIS.

I appreciate Mr Brookes has issued an apology, but I’d like to see Myer to commit to an employment target of 10 per cent of people with disability by the end of 2015. This would be a real demonstration of Myer’s commitment both to people with disability and the broader Australian community.

      My Intellectually handicapped 51 year old daughter Kim Louise Forger, rejected and neglected in 1976 by her birth mother Ngaire Cecil Coghlan, nee Forger, her 18 months elder brother Michael Paul Coghlan, nee Forger and 5 and 6 year younger sisters Kate Ngaire and Annelies Eula Sophia Coghlan, nee Forger.

      Without constant care/support from the Endeavour Foundation-Brisbane live would have been extremely difficult for her.

      Bernie Brook Myer and similar organisation including T Abbott and associates should shift their priorities and ensure that those with a disability but capable of employment should be given this opportunity. Those who object, including many of the present government, should hang their head in shame but will be the first to scream loudest should something similar happen to them.

      Mainy people with a disability would love to be a valued member of our society, this includes employment. PWD would be a loyal and dedicated staff member to any organisation. PWD all want to participate in our communities; its just the communities lack of knowledge and understanding that stands in the way of PWD; ignorance is a curse.
