Mt. Dora HS: Show LGBT Students "It Gets Better"

      Washington, DC

The students at Mount Dora High School need to know that they have educators in their midst who are supportive of who they are. As of now, all they hear about is a teacher who is fighting for his first amendment right to spew bigotry and hatred towards LGBT people.

If faculty, staff and alumni of the school were to get together and send a message of hope, tolerance and support to the kids in this high school via an It Gets Better video, it could again make Mount Dora High School feel like a safe, hate-free learning environment.

We call on the individual faculty members, staff members and alumni to create an It Gets Better video to show students that while bigotry and hatred exist in the world, things do change for the better.

I am an alumn of MDHS who has since come out as gay. I was directly impacted by Jerry Buell's actions.

Love is love. The more people that realize this, the better we will become as a society. Hate won't get us anywhere. In order for us to be progressive we need to eliminate hatred. Teachers, of all people should be the ones setting good examples and eliminating hate - not encouraging and spreading it.

My best friend is gay and I think that people should stop discriminating against gay people. They who they are. It's not like you're going to turn gay if you come into contact with you and there is nothing wrong with being gay.
