Everyblock was a vibrant community with a rich tapestry of community contributions. It was also one of the most innovative technology platforms for delivering hyperlocal content. While we are certain that there were reasons for shutting down the Everyblock community so abruptly, it would be a crime to not have the hard work of the developers and community live on in some fashion. We implore you to open source all or part of the everyblock platform for community use and release the user-generated content of the site to the public domain.

EveryBlock provided a simple and clear way for neighbors to communicate, inform and learn about their self-defined community, as well as, about other communities. It was and still is a much-needed service.

Everyblock really was a public service, and did a lot to connect local neighborhoods. Allowing the platform to go open source could allow forward thinking public media stations to adopt the platform.
