Raise local property taxes to support our schools!

It is not difficult to see how Montgomery County School System is currently in a budget crisis: we have just finished construction of 2 elementary schools, one high school, and are currently building 2 high schools and undertaking a massive renovation of a middle school; we have had state funding cuts to our district to the tune of 6.2 million dollars. Given that our teachers are some of the lowest paid in the country, and that our county has a VERY low real estate tax ($0.75/$100.00 of value), we need to tell our board of supervisors to raise the real estate tax rate and fund our school system.

A $0.25 tax/$100 assessed value means an extra $625 per year for a $250,000 home, or an extra $250 per year for each $100,000 worth of house.

Good public schools are essential for a free society. I support an increase to the property tax to support local schools.

As citizens, we have an obligation to provide education to all children, whether or not they are our own. I consider this part of the social contract and an investment in the future of this country.

This protects services and education which the state and federal government cut or underfund.

It is time for citizens in Montgomery County to realize the importance of our schools. Strong schools means strong communities that grow. We must invest in our schools to keep our best and brightest students in our communities to ensure future growth!

Adequate funding of our schools is essential if we are to meet our responsibilities as a society.
