F. Wilson Wims, a lifelong Clarksburg resident, passed away in February. After World War II Wims bought land in Clarksburg and built houses that he rented to black families who couldn’t afford to live elsewhere in the county. He founded the original baseball team in Clarksburg, an all-star team called the Maryland Wildcats, and remained dedicated to youth sports in Clarksburg throughout the rest of his life. His family can trace its roots in Clarksburg to the days of slavery before the Civil War. Wims is a model of community activism and service whose ties to the community, life history, and legacy serve as an inspiration to us all. It is significant to note that his name was one of the Board's four recommended names for both Little Bennett Elementary School and Clarksburg High School.
