On March 29th, 2012 our dog Moco, a boxer, was shot and killed by a Ventura County Sheriff's Deputy. The officers were responding to a call made by someone on the street for vehicle tampering. We had no involvement with the tampering. The officers came into our yard and shot Moco 3 times as he ran towards them barking. They came into our yard without warning and didn't attempt to use any other means of force. The officers claimed that they couldn't get to their taser fast enough. Our dog had never bit or harmed anyone before and was only doing his job by alerting us that they were present.

This petition is dedicated to increase awareness of police officers use of lethal force and the need for increased respect for life of all kinds. Please sign this petition in asking that Ventura County Sheriff's Deputy Jonathan Witkosky be reprimanded. As of today, he is still on regular duty. As a community, we can demand better training and accountability in police officers use of force.

The use of deadly force against what many of us consider members of our family has to stop. With education on the behavior of dogs maybe they will. Dogs are naturally protective towards their own home and family much in the same way that K-9 officers are protective of their handlers. If all of these dogs that I am asking for justice for had been K-9 officers every police officer in the country would be calling for justice. These animals are not just animals to us they are our family.

police officers need to be trained to deal with animals in a professional manner not just to shoot them. they need to think of how they would feel if it was their pet.

Enough with the shooting of Innocent canines. Dogs are not things, but loved family members.
