Milwaukee, remove the fear mongering co-sleeping ads!

    1. Petition by

Co sleeping can be done very safely and is actually widely beneficial to a newborn baby. Co sleeping can help regulate a newborn's breathing cycle, reduce stress due to separation at night and help facilitate breastfeeding between mother and infant. All of these factors drastically help reduce SIDS. Various doctors, collegiate professors and other professionals have conducted studies that have yielded such results. If Milwaukee wants to help save a baby, it should educate parents on safe co sleeping practices and not vilify a practice that is common across the majority of the planet and is one of the most natural parenting practices known to mammals.

The City of Milwaukee is passing out pack n plays by Graco. Pack n plays are not cribs and do not meet the same standards as cribs. Read this link that says that children should never be out of view when inside a pack n play. If the child should never be out of view, why does the City of Milwaukee Health Department want you to put your baby to sleep in it?

Co-sleeping is SAFE. These ads are misleading and offensive to informed and educated parents who co-sleep with their precious children.

I am a Midwife, and most educated people will tell you that if it is done properly, co sleeping is safe and beneficial to both babies and parents. It helps to regulate their sleep cycle, it helps in the establishment of breastfeeding, It helps make them feel safe and secure, and if they want to feed in the middle of the night, you are right there, no getting up and no putting them back down after, it safes time as well. What an awful scaremongering campaign from the 'health' department!

because ignorance reigns and love is always taking a hit. cosleeping is a way of telling your child he is not alone, he should not be fearful for his parents are his guardians until he is ready to take care of himself.

It is appalling that in the U.S., 5000-6000 infant deaths a year in due to SIDS, or CRIB-DEATH is (for some reason) considered acceptable. But one self-concerned, irresponsible parent causes an unfortunate end to their child's life when sleeping with them, then the ""experts"" claim that no infant should EVER sleep with a parent?!? This follows similar reasoning of our having 1300 wrongful deaths every day in U.S. hospitals (a reality studied by other countries but kept from the general public's awareness), and that's acceptable... but natural approaches to staying healthy and drinking unprocessed milk (none of which has taken a single life), THAT IS CONDEMNED!?! People doing what they have thrived in doing since people have been on this earth, and the ""experts"" now label that 'taboo', is quite moronic.

I know one family who lost two precious infant children to SIDS. The babies were found lifeless in the crib. The parents had dutifully followed the advice of the ""experts"". "EDUCATED" humans are the only creature that will let its young cry, and not attend to their needs.

An alert, loving parent is every infant's best chance at life. A child sleeping with such a parent provides that baby with the physical contact and vigilance that is necessary for the infant's survival, while eliminating periods of insecure-doubt (letting a baby cry in a crib) that WILL manifest into various complexes later in their life.
