McKenzie Reign Speigner was a beautiful little girl, so full of life until September 30, 2012. She died at 18 months of age. McKenzie was under the supervision of her father and step-mother who were highly intoxicated on pharmaceutical drugs and alcohol. Police reports claim that McKenzie ingested a dish-washing tablet and that her caregivers didn't seek medical attention for her until the following day due to their intoxicated state. McKenzie was pronounced dead as soon as responders arrived. Kristopher and Joy Speigner are being charged with criminal negligent homicide which is a MISDEMEANOR in the state of Alabama. These individuals are only looking at a maximum of ONE year in jail. How is this justice and how is this right? Please sign my petition asking Alabama lawmakers to change the laws regarding criminal negligent homicide!

Because this is total fucking bullshit! You can get a life term for so many pounds of pot, but only a year for being responsible for a child and that child dying while in your care?! I don't give a shit if the president was watching her and it happened. I don't give a shit that they were fucked up! What I give a shit about, is for anyone to be given only a 1 year sentence in which they were directly at fault and cause that child's death. They even knew better, but did nothing in fear that they'd get in trouble! Now, can they not add charges on for attempting to conceal a crime, being dip shits, so on and so forth?! Alabama is a really shitty state in the first place, but this is just too much! How can negligent death only be a 1 year sentence?! People can do more time on a DUI charge! For fucks sake people, grow a brain out there in D.C. and pass laws that matter to the people, community, tax payers, etc, etc.

Our children deserve better. If you can't take care of a child than you shouldn't have one.

A year for a life, is that all a life is worth now in Alabama? I thought this was the bible belt of the south, where life was important than anything and held guarded by all. This is so sad that they only get a year, when it should be life. AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A LIFE FOR A PRECIOUS LIFE.

Because our job as parents are to take care of and protect our children not to cause their death

McKenzie was in daycare with my son. She was an absolutely precious little girl. The parents deserve to be in jail... As parents, we are supposed to protect our children, not put them in danger. It is heartbreaking that they could barely be punished and have another baby in their care.
